Well, it's definitely a VERY long and slow fade on Hey Jude, and some broken hearts are slow burners like that.

Very interesting interpretation I had a similar view knowing how long it takes for them to stop singing na na na na! What a great song by The Beatles and a lovely little reference to them by our Jeff

Amd I'm fine with that, melody and chords are 10 fold more important than lyrics to me. Mr. jackpunch, I must hereby declare that my esteem for you has risen to astronomic levels after having read this statement of yours. Very well said.

I was listening to Shangri-La off A New World Record and as a Beatles fan I was drawn to the lyric "Fading like The Beatles on Hey Jude" which to me is a lovely lyric and you don't understand what it means straight away unless you really think about the song Hey Jude. I must admit I didn't spot the reference straight away, not good for a so called big fan of The Beatles and knowing how much Jeff loves The Beatles. Don't worry, that's nothing! The first few times I listened to Shangri-La I was convinced in the beginning it said " Macarena... Macarena...".

Sometimes I do have trouble understanding what Jeff is singing so I have to look up the lyrics 😂😂

I've always loved Jeff's Idle Race lyrics the most, very inventive, funny and clever. Not that I don't love his words to ELO songs, but the closest he's come with his later work to achieving the same is with 'Jungle' or 'Horace'.
Perhaps ELO's music is too inventive and clever to need the same for the words?
Jeff has problems with writing words -

Lovely to hear from Jeff about how he forces himself to write lyrics, I've yet to listen to The Idle Race, any songs you'd recommend by them?

A friend of mine and I theorized that "21st Century Man" was a subtle tribute to John Lennon. Back in 2006, I even made a video for the song, with that very premise in mind. Hard to believe I did this ten years ago...

I see what you mean with regards to the lyric one day you're a hero next day you're a clown because that does sum up how John Lennon is perceived by the public he's either seen as a hero almost God like? And other times as a clown because that's how he presented himself in press interviews but it was one of his many masks

I mean, it probably wasn't, but don't tell the me of ten years ago that! hah.
