So, you could rent a donkey? How fun!

A beach without donkeys is no beach at all . The rides are really meant for children so sadly it means one of my seaside highlights is over . I have many happy memories of donkey rides along the beach at Blackpool, Scarborough, Cleethorpes etc but there's always a handler guiding the donkey - I longed to gallop free! (I don't actually know if donkeys CAN gallop). I know somebody who runs a set of seaside donkeys and he says they are just like dogs and very mischievous with strong personalities. Just look at those dear faces! -

It would be so hard not being able to ride one of those cuties. Look at those ears!

I remember riding the donkeys at Weston super Mare when I was a kid, you had to hold onto that loop thing at the front of the saddle and not the reins. They used to walk the whole troupe a few hundred yards down the beach and then turn them back towards their base and let them go, you had to cling on for dear life as they ran back towards their donkey din dins. That was back in the old days, before Health and Safety of course....loads of fun though
