Xanadu and A New World Record? Yep,those are the two. Actually its Discovery and Time! Anyway, I hope it gets the number one spot because Jeff deserves it.

As good as AOTW is, to me it's not a definitive 'greatest hits' album. For instance, how can you include 'Alright' and leave out '10538...'? same with the new version of Xanadu (what was wrong with the old one?) no 'Roll Over Beethoven' and you can't have 'Confusion' without 'Last Train...' To me a greatest hits should encompass hits from every era and quite possibly every album regardless of whether they made the charts or not,so I would personally drop one of the songs from OOTB,Discovery and ANWR so as to include ROB and 10538 and possibly Can't Get It Out Of My Head.I know ELO have a million hits to choose from but I think this is not the GREATEST of hit albums (well not until the next one comes along...)

There was a "Greatest hits" Volume 2 I believe it was called "Ticket to the moon" The best and I feel most definitive "Greatest Hits" was Light Years. They should release that.

An all singing, all dancing triple CD box set isn't going to sell that many copies(only to the die-hards) so I guess you have to pick the songs that will fit on one CD.That said,I don't think this is the best line up of songs. How can you leave out the band's first two hits that are a staple of there live shows for instance?

I guess they were left out for 2 reasons, The length of both songs would mean they would potentially take up to 4 'normal' radio friendly length songs worth of CD space and secondly, it was aimed at the more 'casual' ELO listener, so they would go for the more recognisable and mainstream ELO songs.
Granted that doesn't explain why Jeff included his new version of Xanadu and Alright on the album, but this is I suppose like the 'best of' albums of today which many artists include several new tracks. Maybe, as this was a few years after Zoom, Jeff was trying to 'showcase' the Zoom album to garner more interest in his then most recent work. He may also have been proud of his new version of Xanadu and wanted to pluck it from relative obscurity on Flashback (which most likely only serious ELO fans and interested parties would have bought) and again bring it to a wider audience.

Check the following report ... Half way down the page it gives the Uk numbers sold of aotw to get to number 1..... www.mediatraffic.de For me tHis underlines the point had Aitu been released earlier in the summer then that would have probably reached n1 too as it sold far more than aotw did. I appreciate the viola beach posthumous album had a big impact this week but apparently aotw sold only 6000 less so is still selling strongly. Smart pricing policy must be contributing to that.
