Nice review but I do take issue with the idea that the new songs were "forced on" the audience. Personally I can think of a few off AITU I'd like to have heard played live.

"Audible sunbeams" indeed .

It's a shame the Times review is only 3*, I normally like things Will Hodgkinson has written. Yet the part you can read for free is good.
The Arts Desk review is an excellent piece. "Half way through the man in front of me turned to his wife, wide-eyed, and pronounced “My word, they really are dead good.” Of course they were. Lynne would never have allowed anything less – nor could he have written such complex-yet-easy material without a perfectionist streak a mile long." I love reviews that tell us what we already know .

So it's 17.11, I'm at the O2, nursing a beer and trying not to hyperventilate. First time seeing ELO since 1981 and a day I never thought would come. I just hope the show meets my expectations!

Just on my way home from the O2. Some thoughts; 1) Really pleased they've sorted out a proper dramitic intro now, and a good opener, it's what was missing from Hyde Park and Porchester. 2) The set is still too short. 3. Secret Messages is not sounding beefy enough. There's something not right with it. Very excited it's in the set though. 4) Jeff's voice seemed a bit low in the mix tonight, which was a shame. 5) Still gutted there's nothing from Time in the set. 6) People talking behind me nearly derailed the night, but my wife came to rescue and asked them to pipe down a bit, which did the trick. 7) Tightrope ROCKS. 8) 10538 ROCKS. 9) I guess overall it's what I was expecting. It was never going to match the excitement of Hyde Park or the experience of TFI Friday, and it was the furthest away I've been which didn't help, but I did enjoy it more than Porchester.

Have to agree that Tightrope is a brilliant opening track but I didn't get the same impression of Jeff's voice being low in the mix - but then I wasn't at Porchester or Hyde Park. The audience gave it everything and I'm very hoarse today

Chuffed to see this from Royal Blood on Twitter: "Last night @royalblooduk took an educational trip to see/hear one of the best song writers on this planet. Thank you @jefflynneselo"
Royal Blood are not exactly in the same vein as ELO, but they're one of my favourites and it's great to see they appreciate quality too

Guardian journalist in lazy, shoddy review shock. I guess it's trendy not to like them again.
