Thanks again ootbartifacts Does anyone have in their possession one of these so-called "defective" editions? Got one from the local market stall at the time because they were cheap, the covers were clipped in one corner, I was told at the time it was for import duty,

The posters may have been a warning against bootleg copies and merchandise?
As far as the clipping of the corners on albums are concerned, I once read that records were returnable from the store to the record companies if they never sold. They were then re-sold onto discount stores but the corners were cut to prevent them being returned to the companies again if not sold. Only ever seen this in the USA copies, either cut or hole punched and mostly on the Face The Music re-issue on the United Artists Sunburst labels design and a few other re-issues.

Only ever seen this in the USA copies, either cut or hole punched and mostly on the Face The Music re-issue on the United Artists Sunburst labels design and a few other re-issues. I always thought that the clipping was on US imports to the UK (maybe not) and perhaps stores were getting these (in bulk) cheaper than the UK suppliers. I remember years ago looking at the record collection of my mum's friend and she had an Out Of The Blue...US copy, I thought it strange and asked her on it's origin. She said her husband had picked it up in Woolworths in the town! Also my brother's copy which was bought locally is the US pressing. Here is a UK copy on eBay with the CBS marking... And here are a few US copies with UA... I think basically this ad may have been issued to deal with flooding the market with cheaper imports rather than bootlegging. I'm aware that the bootlegging of live gigs/outtakes was common place back then (especially Dylan, Springsteen, Stones etc.) but I personally have never come across the illegal reproduction of a bog standard 70s LP.

Nice collection of the different issues Poorbob, I just googled the problems with Out Of The Blue in the USA and as you say it was the flooding of the market with cheap defective copies by United Artists and not bootlegs. Here is an interesting link - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_Records

Here is an interesting link - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_Records Thanks for the link ootbartifacts, looks like perhaps some shenanigans over at Jet throughout the years, would be interesting to read more detail of the label after the bits and pieces we know about them and their rather unique management techniques

We had fanlights above the doors of the bedrooms in my Mum and Dads house, this is where my sticker mentioned above was stuck too, the fanlight above my bedroom door. I'm pleased to say when we sold the house after my Mum passed away the sticker was still in place, I wonder if the new owners removed it

If the postage had not been so outrageous, I would have bid on one. I think you're very lucky I didn't!
