My first ELO album was a double LP complilation (so no lyric sheet) and I remember being driven mad by a line in Can't Get It Out Of My Head ( some irony there)where I just could not work out what JL was singing, no matter how many times I listened to it, it sounded like gibberish. It wasn't until I got a copy of Eldorado that I saw, to my amazement it was: "Robin Hood, William Tell, Ivanhoe, Lancelot, They don't envy me". I can honestly say I don't think I would never have worked that out if I hadn't seen the printed lyrics. Oh yeah, and the opening to Rockaria had me scratching my head for years.

When I first heard Hold on tight many moons ago, I thought he said 'sail on time' instead of 'it's along time' urging us not to miss the boat as it were.ha ha.

It was exactly the same for me with Can't Get It Out Of my Head fourlittlediamonds I could believe that line when I checked the lyric sheet.

I'm totally with you on Can't Get It Out Of My Head. Not only that but in the very same song I initially thought that the line 'walking on a wave's chicane' was instead 'walking on a wave, she came' which arguably makes sense as well. I was a young teenager at the time and would probably have thought that a chicane could only have something to do with a piece of Scalextrix track!
Even more obscure was my initial understanding of the classic B-side 'Buildings Have Eyes' which initially had no lyrics printed to accompany its release. To this day I hear the line 'Wish I'd never set out, wish I'd stayed in bed' as (adopts a Yorkshire accent) 'Wish I'd never said owt, wish I'd stayed in bed'. This regional twist won't mean much to all of you but with family roots in that part of the world it's never left me!

When I managed to get hold of an import copy of The Night the Light Went on in Long Beach, I was stunned when I listened to Daytripper and was sure Jeff sang: "She's a pr**k-teaser!"

Might have written this somewhere before, (BSJ's data bank has missing circuits and she... what did I mean to write? Where am I?) I've a bootleg of ELO in Stuttgart Germany 1986 BOP tour, and pretty sure our foul mouth Jeffery sings: "But you better get your assh**e on board the very next train." This is the first song played. Maybe he was pissed at someone? Was anyone at this concert?

In 'Strange Magic' I thought Jeff sang "In a broken stone age dump" instead of "You're sailing softly through the sun/In a broken stone age dawn".

On "Nobody's child", at the beginning when it says " painted lady, painted lady, painted lady" I used to hear " mayday, mayday, mayday, mayday, mayday, mayday". My panic to planes could have had something to do with it.

On 'Wild West Hero' I always heard "I'd be the envy of friends let them live to be free..."
and of course it was
"I'd be the Indians friend let them live to be free..."

Night In the City Is: Night in the city, driving you insane. I heard: Night in the city, driving USA.
Poor Boy Is: The dancing girls and the open fires and the wine that flows like water. I heard: The dancing girls and the open thighs and the wine that flows like water.
Confusion Is: Every night you're out there darling. I heard: Every night you're out there dawning.
I think the words "open thighs" and "dawning" give these songs more impact, so I've kept them.

Helmut83. Wow! Really? You thought this as well. I'll be. I'm sure Jeff thought of that "coarse" line. Men.
