A few years ago (well 1998) I was in a wee 2nd hand record shop in Pamplona and I stumbled upon this... And inside was an A4 press release... Quite nice eh, anyone else came across any other promos with press releases or unusual inserts?

That was a huge get, poorbob ! Beautiful! No unusual inserts here, (prob pitched) but bought from a dealer at a record show last week. “No Answer” promo 12”. The dealer, Jack, who's been collecting records for 60 years, was a salesman and he had the opportunity to visit radio stations. This came from his personal collection. Thanks, Jack.
The white label pasted on the cover is for suggested cuts.
Embossed gold stamped. The promo jacket is shiny smooth finish, whereas the public is matte. Inside same photos. Interesting label differences and acknowledgement of the use of Move’s funds.
Why Jet promo, not UA? Thought it be the other way around. No clue. Have not looked into it yet.
Close shot of white label. Also, the interesting Jet logo.

What a wonderful experience to find something to read in Spanish on the forum!
Couldn't help but notice they refer to the band as "la Electric Light Orchestra" or "la ELO", with the article.

Oh that's nice BJS, one thing I always look for at record fairs is that gold 'promo' stamp (so much better than cut corners)! And Helmut, I had to wait until I learned Spanish to read that a year later (guitarra, what the hell does that mean!!!)

poorbob : did you really learn Spanish? Yep Well I was out there working and living with my Basque missus (now ex), so I had to learn, plus I have a 13 year old daughter out there so I still get to speak it from time to time!

BSJ, the No Answer release you have is a Jet / CBS reissue and you have a demo copy of the reissue. The AL/JZ catalogue number is from 1978.

Thank's Jon! It didn't make sense. Wish it were the original! I'll let my dealer friend know too. He got it from a rock station library eons ago.
Why reissue a promo?

That Spanish version of Secret Messages is rather odd... Apart from the translated title not being at the bottom where it would normally be found on more regular editions of this album, the cover (but curiously not its surrounding picture frame!) has been cropped to remove Kelly and Richard. Considering how well the changes were executed, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a genuine early variation by original artist David Costa, as the piece it was based on - the work of Leeds photographer Hag - only had one set of windows, which needed to be copied in order to make room for the other two members of ELO, even though Kelly was already in the middle of a lawsuit that saw him eventually forced out of the band.

Was this ever replicated? I mean for example was there a sheet music/song book that used the cropped image? Looking around online I see they never chose to butcher the cover for the cassette version, which is a bit strange as most other artwork was.
