It can't have been easy with most of the free world rooting for Ukraine...

It can't have been easy with most of the free world rooting for Ukraine... Well, it certainly became easier when Ukraine scored the goal on themselves.

How come the Birmingham Blues play tomorrow but do not play again until December 10th?

How come the Birmingham Blues play tomorrow but do not play again until December 10th? It is because the football World Cup is happening in Qatar between Nov 21st-Dec 18th so the Championship is to be paused.

Thanks, Horacewimp. They are in 10th place right now and I am afraid that a month off will kill their momentum. Ah, well.

Tomorrow (Monday) is USA vs Wales. America has about 100x the population, but the crowd sourced prediction is for a draw.
What are they doing to beat the heat in Qatar I wonder?

Someone once said, Let's face it, the USA does not do soccer. We try but we're lousy at it. Why? Because you actually have to run. Americans don't play sports where you have to run for any length of time. Baseball for instance. You only have to run 90 feet between each base. Sure, you can hit a homerun and have to run them all but THEN, you can just jog them. Football, American football that is. We only run 10 yards at a time. That's it! Once in a while someone runs farther but generally, you only have to run 10 yards. So, there is no way we are going to be good at soccer because it's nonstop running. As an American myself, I think that's funny.

I think you are a week out, the USA V Wales match is a week today 21st November. I think they are playing a lot of the matches late evening because of the heat and also the European tv fans, there was also mention of closed roof air conditioned stadiums not sure if they have happened though.

Yep, I saw a TV ad for the game that said MONDAY- the date must’ve been in small print. At my old job there was a pub next door and we’d sneak out to catch the good matches. No such luck at my new office.

As an American myself, I think that's funny. Funny that you mention it as I had thought about that before myself. My focus wasn't on running per se but on aerobic capacity (which in the end is pretty much the same). It always called my attention how American sports have very short "spurts" of action and then tons of cuts between them where they can catch a lot of breath, so my conclusion was that Americans are used to being super strong, super athletic or super fast in very short stints, but when it's about aerobic capacity they suck. Pretty much what you just said. I won't say anything else about them since they have by far the most talented roster they've ever had plus a relatively easy group so they could make it relatively far this World Cup.
