Telephone Line gets me these days. I've been going through a breakup with a girl who shared a love of ELO. Her favourite song was Telephone Line which was one of my least favourites but when we broke up it took on a whole new meaning. The lyrically content had me in tears several nights. Especially after we started communicating less (Hello...how are you? Have you been alright, through all those lonely lonely longely nights) -- It was an emotional breakup and we reminisced and talked about some of our halcyon days (Don't you realize the things we did were all for real not a dream. I just can't believe they've all faded out of view) -- I find it very hard to listen to now.

Well as the OP, I would say, feel free to expand this beyond ELO songs, but you already have done! Do you use Reddit by any chance? Er, No, why?

Do you use Reddit by any chance? Er, No, why? Nothing... it's just that "OP" is a term used very often around Reddit, hardly ever here, so I thought maybe that was the reason.

When Time Stood Still always gets me.. I'm still shocked that When Time Stood Still and Julie Don't Live Here weren't put on Time. I was never a huge fan of the album, but to me, those songs are far stronger than half the songs that did make the cut. Especially When Time Stood Still. I never liked The Lights Go Down, and even though I usually love instrumentals, Another Heart Breaks was never my favourite either. Even Here Is The News, From The End Of The World and Yours Truly, 2095 are weaker than the two songs I mentioned above in my opinion. I know not everyone agrees (obviously Lynne didn't ), but damn those two songs are amazing.

Songs like From The End Of The World, Yours Truly 2095, Rain is Falling, and Twilight are weaker songs in my opinion to these two. When Time Stood Still comes close to my personal favorite from the album The Way Life's Meant to Be.

I'm still hoping that Time will get the full deluxe treatment with all the songs added in the right order and not tacked onto the end as "bonus" tracks. I love When time stood still. it's so melancholy.

Which song makes you emotional? It depends if we are talking teary “I’m welling up, this is too gorgeous” heart-bursting emotion or excited “oh my goodness music doesn’t get better than this!!” blood-rushing emotion.
In the former I’d have –
- All My Life – beautiful and classic Jeff. Almost as good as 'Blown Away'. - Shangri-La – it’s just exquisite. - Waterfall – such a gorgeous, stunning melody. - One Summer Dream – beautiful and epic. What heaven sounds like. - Believe Me Now and Big Wheels – I have no words. My OOTB highlights - When Time Stood Still – it’s the bass, it sounds so wistful. - Eldorado – everything here is just epic. Beautiful. Nothing beats a choir.
- Steppin’ Out / Can’t Get it Out Of My Head / Strange Magic (Bungalow Palace versions) – if I have to explain why, you are clearly no ELO fan! Just hear that piano. Just hear that voice. - A Long Time Gone – George’s guitar=emotional for me.
In the latter I'd have -
- Hold on Tight - nothing says "pop song" better. - Twilight = masterpiece. - I'm Alive / All Over the World - It's good to be alive and able to hear music like this! - Confusion - I never know if this song is happy or sad so I don't know what emotion to think, that's why I love it. - Every Little Thing - makes me feel so happy I know Jeff's music.
But the big, over-all, blasts-all-other-songs-out-of-the-water-in-the-emotional-stakes track has to be ‘Blown Away’. It’s just too epic, big and moving. So great that you even forget to breathe while listening to it. That’s the mark of a great emotional track – how breathless it makes you.
Many times it's the guitar that creates the emotion on a track - short, simple and melodic. And I'm sure that ANY song will bring on the emotion when it's played live this year during the tour! I don't think anybody else aside from Jeff has the power to make grown men cry.
Aside from Jeff's/ELO's music there's a couple of Procol Harum tracks, a few George Harrison tracks and of course 'Free As A Bird' that make me emotional.

Queen, I agreed about some songs you cited as emotional, disagreed about others, but I had to give your post a huge "like" because of this: But the big, over-all, blasts-all-other-songs-out-of-the-water-in-the-emotional-stakes track has to be ‘Blown Away’. It’s just too epic, big and moving. So great that you even forget to breathe while listening to it. That’s the mark of a great emotional track – how breathless it makes you.
