I saw him live at the Kimmel Show mini concert. They had to play Evil Women 3 times, because of a few bad notes, and new song lyrics that Jeff was working on. If they're just miming then they wouldn't need to do that! So if there something it's not but bits and pieces. Sound technology has improved vastly in the last 30 years. I think it sad that someone would be so jaded as to think it's a big fake. You don't play a song 3 times to get it right if you're miming your sound.
Back on topic, did any one ever cast aspersions that backing tapes were used at the Zoom PBS recording, I don't remember anything. I wonder if you compared those tracks to Hyde Park how they would stack up. I know it was a different band and was before Jeff had rerecorded some tracks but they don't sound any more or less "live" than Hyde Park does.
That's what the Hair is for. The Hair is a transmitter. No need to plug in!
I like the fact that you spelled "Hair" with capital letter. Finally someone showing due respect to that wonder itself, not just to the genius that's attached to it.
The best therapy for any problem you might have is playing music with friends.

Jeff had yet to record (most of) the tracks that would later appear on Mr. Blue Sky when he launched the ill-fated Zoom Tour, but it seems as if was still relying on a little prepared assistance during the DVD from this period. The most obvious examples were the sound effects at the start of Telephone Line and Tightrope, though he's nearly always relied on such "tapes" for the introductions of certain songs, so it's not really fair to point those out. While hardly a smoking gun, a few of the backing musicians had earpieces in back then. Now, were they monitors or evidence of click tracks being utilised? Either way, just like the more recent Hyde Park concert, everyone proved very much audible to a degree. Of all the players, Marc Mann was the one who fascinated me the most - I read that he was using MIDI to trigger violin samples through his guitar, which can be seen when he's tackling the runs once performed by Mik Kaminski. Also, upon further inspection, Richard definitely upgraded his vocoder for the 2001 shows, and he's done so again since.

Did Marc Mann not have a roland guitar synth picked fitted so that he could effectively play keyboards on his guitar. I watched it a bit years ago on vhs, but probably havent seen it for 10 years. I thought it was a bit serile, but that was probably due to there being about 100 people in the audience.
I don't believe backing tapes were used. But the BBC broadcast (and the DVD/BD probably has it too) has seriously horrible Auto Tune on almost the whole show, but especially noticeable (and annoying) on "All Over The World" and "Rock'n'Roll Is King". The safest bet to get an undoctored version of the show would be to sync up the 1080i50 BBC footage with the original FM broadcast. But then another problem arises: the live mix was HORRIBLE. On "Mr. Blue Sky" the choir is pratically inaudible and the guy/girl's vocals which should be really low are very high. I guess only an audience recording can save us!
eloneen: I'm getting ready for our 2024 North American eclipse! We will have 70-80% coverage at the peak of the event, but it's still a big deal! The kids at the school will be very excited! We have eclipse glasses for myself and the family at the ready. ::t1615::

Horacewimp: It should be a great sight eloneen we are getting nothing in the middle of the uk 😢

orioles70: I had to go to 5 places today before I got some eclipse viewing glasses. When I got to 7/11, the lady was saying on the phone, "I'm down to my last box". In Maryland we'll get about an 85% blackout at the peak. So far the clouds are holding off.

unomusette: Oooh, hope all our 'mercan forumheads have a great view, you lucky things ::t1607::

eloneen: I got my glasses from Amazon last week - enough for the family and a few to spare. I was at school, and the eclipse was happening right before dismissal, so many teachers had lessons about the eclipse and ended the day with taking the students outside.

eloneen: It was quite a scene, and great fun watching them experiencing our partial eclipse with such enthusiasm and awe. Some of them had seen the total eclipse in western NC in 2017 with their families. My mother was underwhelmed, expecting much more. Oh well!

orioles70: expecting much more? or maybe much less? (sunlight) I was a little surprised at how much light came through with 85% of the sun blocked. I had expected a cloudy day so I was pleasantly surprised by how good the eclipse viewing was.

BIuebird: We got about 88% coverage here in Delaware! I had bought my glasses last week, so we were prepared. It was pretty cool! I was afraid that the clouds that creeped up might obscure it at the last minute, but we were lucky and they held off.

eloneen: My mother was expecting more drama, more darkness, more changes. Instead, it looked like a quicker than normal transition from sunny skies to dusky skies in mid-afternoon, then a return to sunny skies. After all the hype on TV, she was disappointed.

eloneen: I saw the total eclipse in 2017, about 4 hours west of where I live. This year's partial eclipse was not as dramatic, but still quite extraordinary.

Timeblue: Did you all see the lights go down?
Apr 10, 2024 10:30:04 GMT
eloneen: Not entirely, but we saw the streetlights turn on, which was cool.

Horacewimp: Did you get the eerie silence when the birds stop singing because they think night has come early
Apr 12, 2024 15:19:22 GMT
eloneen: I thought I heard birds singing the way they do early in the morning. We didn't get complete coverage, so it was probably a little confusing when it got a bit darker and then brightened up again fairly soon after.

BSJ: We were able to enjoy the full eclipse from our backyard. Unbelievable experience. A hush stillness was felt. It became dark during the few minutes of full coverage. From when we first started to see the sliver of moon sliding over the sun, to the end, 2hr
Apr 13, 2024 13:19:47 GMT
eloneen: Agreed. The total eclipse experience is amazing, and I'm glad I was able to see one.
