The best songs are Shotgun, Anywhere from Here and Ball and Chain. Not being a country fan at all, I'm really surprised at how much I enjoyed most of these songs.

Thanks for your feedback, @brax. I'm glad you enjoyed it, sometimes it's just a matter of not saying "this is X genre (country in this case), I will not like it".

Ball and Chain – I thought this was going to be Social Distortion’s “Ball and Chain”, but no. Yeah, this one is decent. Sort of the typical modern country/rock thing that you hear a lot on the radio.
The Blues Have Blown Away – “like a boat out on the ocean?” ….I think Lennon and Maisy are those two sisters from the YouTube videos. Good singers, for sure. The song itself is cute.
Boys and Buses – Hayden Panettiere is smoking hot. The song is crap.
Looking for a Place to Shine – Pure voice, which is nice. Too bad the song wasn’t as good as the singer.
Be My Girl – Not bad. Interesting to hear Jonathan Jackson, who is probably best known for his role as Lucky Spencer on the soap opera General Hospital, singing. The chorus on this one is catchy, at least.
Have A Little Faith In Me – Great old John Hiatt song. Hard to believe the girl singing is only 12 years old. When I was 12, I was trying to play the drums without poking myself in the eye with the stick.
He Ain’t Gonna Change – Another typical nu-country song, although this one is actually sort of catchy.
Anywhere From Here – This sounds like most of the other songs I’ve already heard…
World On Time – Beginning sounds like a Jeff Lynne rockabilly song. The rest isn’t bad. Good harmony.
Shotgun – Christina Aguilera has always had a fantastic voice, even if the songs she was singing were lightweight dreck. This isn’t dreck, but it’s still not all that good.
Overall, I’ll be nice and give this a 3/10.

For what I know, Maisy is 12 now but was 10 when she recorded the song (that was 2 years ago). Yes, she and her sister are those girls from YouTube (they are Canadian). And this is a matter of personal tastes, but in my opinion Hayden is OK but the Australian girl is hotter.
Well, what a thrashing you gave it, Chippa! I'm surprised you found it that bad as Americans tend to be more used to that kind of music, which of course doesn't mean they have to like it. In any case, I'm surprised to see that you were familiar with several of the actors in the cast.
Next time don't be nice, just give it the points you think it deserves.

Helmut said to Chippa : "Next time don't be nice, just give it the points you think it deserves." Memo to @chippa from Jon Gibson and Russ Taff: "Please apply Helmut83 's request just to items he selects, as for our part we would prefer all the mercy we can get from you." Ha ha, just messin' with ya, Chippa. Jim

Mmm I was intrigued when you put this up. Having never heard of the programme or it's songs. Let me first declare, I have no time for Glee (or fame or indeed best singer) type shows, they are always seem to me, sterile exercises in using music-lite as a convenient prop to fill out the broadcast time.
Now let me also declare, I am a massive admirer of both the songwriting and musicianship of country music generally...so this comes as a bit of a challenge as to which side of me will win out.
I listened to all the songs 3 times (my usual measure if I will enjoy something I've not previously heard)....the final three songs are to me clearly the strongest and the ones I remember, the others were all fine examples of writing and performance especially for tv.
I did ask myself if this was one act who had worked through the years and not a composite how I would feel about it, I of course couldn't answer ....what I could say is I will be sticking with my favoured country type acts and I will leave the Coke ads others to enjoy. Thank you for putting this up.

Thanks for your insight, dillwyn. Independantly of how much or little you liked it, reading what you wrote I can't help but get the notion that you listened to it with a certain amount of prejudice. Nashville has nothing to do with Glee, starting by the fact that it's not a musical. Then, most of the songs featured in the series weren't written for it. They were songs which were written previously by lesser-known songwriters to whom the show bought the rights after doing some research and finding the songs. That's why I think your idea of "fine examples of writing and performance especially for TV" is a mistaken preconception. That's also the reason why I wouldn't call them Coke ads. Those guys write their songs as you write yours, then comes a show and buys them the songs and records them; that doesn't mean your songs were conceived as Coke ads or written especially for TV. I hope I'm expressing that idea correctly. This aside, you are of course entitled to dislike the songs as much as you want, but I think that particular criticism comes from a mistaken preconception. In any case, it's good that you took time to listen to the songs and thanks for writing a review. I agree that 3 times is the ideal (or the ideally minimal) amount of times you should listen to a song in order to get a better grasp of it. Unfortunately one doesn't always find time to do it, but that's a good measure.

Yes maybe so, more than happy acknowledge my lack of awareness on this show.
I'd interpreted this collection as songs particular to this show only, so not aware they were available from the original artists. I thought it was a bunch of actors singing in 'country style' backed by first class session musicians. if I am wrong on that happy to stand corrected. To be fair I think I liked all of them as a standalone (some more than others) and as I said the last three stood out for me. There isn't a bad song amongst them just ones I personally prefer. I suspect my Coke ad comment rankled for which I can only apologise, it wasn't intended to undermine the collection, more highlight a dicotomy that exists in most people when it comes to authenticity of their favoured collection of sounds. Although in reality each are equally valid, we bring our own collection of experiences/preferences/prejudices which is brilliant.

No, you can undermine the collection everything you want and mistreat the songs as much as you want (so did other guys here, you can check it out). There's nothing to discuss about personal tastes. My point is that most of these songs weren't conceived for the show as you had thought initially. If they sound non-authentic, it's for other reasons, among which you could cite recording them especially for a TV show.
