The Song We Were Singing - Quiet for an opener and the verse is quite Dylan-esque but the chorus opens it right up. I like the contrast here, nice one.
The World Tonight - This sounds familiar, was it a single? Has Wilbury elements but it's a step beyond with Macca's own stamp firmly upon it. Having said that it sounds like a step beyond for him too, I don't recall him coming out with anything like this before. Another solid track, the album is shaping up nicely.
If You Wanna - Nice fat sound as this kicks off and I like the varied guitar parts. Clips along at a steady pace and the McCartney voice sounding good.
Somedays - A bit retro-sounding but this is not a bad thing at all. There's a Strawbs song along these lines which also has this vibe (You and I When We Were Young) which is one of my favourites.
Young Boy - I do remember this as a single, it was all over the radio and I always liked it then. Bit of a McCartney classic I'd say.
Calico Skies - Interesting folky song with a really pretty melody and nice upfront guitar. Again reminds me of something Strawbs might have come up with.
Flaming Pie - Back to rocking and rolling, sounds like a singalong in a pub, it has a bit of a Chas and Dave feel
Heaven on a Sunday - Oooh, smooth. I like the range of different moods on offer on this album I must say. This doesn't go many other places but it's pleasant enough and all albums need a filler or two.
Used to Be Bad (Duet with Steve Miller) - Standard sort of rocker, it's quite difficult to tell their voices apart actually. Again not a stand-out track for me.
Souvenir - Bit too bluesy for me but the voice is getting a good workout here.
Little Willow - Sounds like another single, pleasant but not outstanding for me. Is that Jeff on backing vocals?
Really Love You (written by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr) - This is a bit more lively, I like the slightly shouty vocals and the lively beat but it does go on a bit too long for me.
Beautiful Night - Blimey, another single? I didn't realise all these were on one album, nice work Macca! Back on form here with a classic song of the type he does so well when he's firing on all cylinders. I especially like the happy, bouncing outro, shades of Mr Blue Sky....
Great Day - Well, this album had a quiet intro so why not a quiet outro? Well sung and an interesting melody with an uplifting theme. Leaves you with a smile on your face, can't fault that.
You can tell Jeff has had his paws on this, but his signature sound suits Paul McCartney perfectly and this partnership was made in heaven. For me, the album started out really well, lost it a bit after Flaming Pie and came back just in time with Beautiful Night. All in all it's a pretty good album with a trademark sound and (of course) lovely production
I'd give it 6 out of 10, thanks for sharing it Chippa
