Quick review of Body and Soul from tracks kindly sent via email:
Heart of Gold - Stately opening, very reminiscent of ELO or someone like Nik Kershaw, good to listen to.
In the Name of the Lord - Generic 80's sounding song, it has a nice uplifting sound.
Merry go Round - Plods a bit for me and goes on too long.
God will find ya - Not mad about the keyboards, it has a Michael Jackson vibe which also gives it an 80's throwback atmosphere.
Father Father - Bit of a power ballad, nice guitar sound.
Have a talk with god - More upbeat and clattery, liking the quirky keyboards.
Long ago - Yay, samba stylee, an interesting take on the nativity.
Us now - pretty tune, not my sort of genre but good of its type.
Everyone needs the lord - Anthemic and gospel-sounding, it gets better as it goes along.
I thought these tracks weren't as good as the odd other songs I reviewed before, but then those were cherry picked and this is a whole album. Best songs were Heart of Gold, In the Name of the Lord and Have a Talk with God. I noticed more soundalike moments (ie sounding like other artists such as Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson), but there's still a polished sound and Mr G does have a good voice. I'm not religious so the lyrics don't particularly appeal to me but for those who enjoy the message it's good to update the music to keep it in line with modern tastes.
I'd give it 4 out of 10, thanks for taking the time to send on the MP3's,
