Wondering who has the earliest experience of seeing the band and with which line ups and how they compare? Mine was NEC 1981 time tour with two friends from 6th form, we shamelessly sang 'telephone line' out of tune and was shouted down for doing so by folk in the crowd, the LED countdown and Fred the robot were other good memories, along with a temperature of -13 outside, where dodgy sellers passed on flimsy looking ELO scarves to us unsuspecting fans. In those days you bought tickets from retailers mine was from way ahead records in Nottingham....long since gone along with most of the others!

This is in another thread: This show was Aug. 28 1976, in a crappy building called the Sports Arena. It was a hockey rink, not very large. Ticket $5.50.
On Jeff Lynne Database, it was called Face The Music Tour - which Bev called a ballbuster. Read about it there. www.jefflynnesongs.com/ftmtour/

the Toledo Sports Arena. What an iconic place. I remember seeing the Shrine Circus, and pro wrestling there many times.

I'm not sure if it was September 14th or 15th of 1978 since they played both nights but on one of those night I was them at Madison Square Garden in NYC. It was during the famous Out of the Blue tour with the giant Spaceship. It was my second concert. I had seen Queen earlier in the year at the same venue. It was awesome. I liked it better than Queen which is saying a lot. Until I got hooked on Bruce ELO was my favorite band. To this day they (he) are still my second favorite band. Keeping fingers and toes crossed he plays in the US next year. Won't be at the Garden but I'll go where they go.

bmac Only reason Mr Lynne's ELO won't be at the Garden is if Billy Joel doesn't stop hogging it by selling out every night he's there! I think over 25 nights and counting. Well, of course Mr Lynne's ELO can do better than this!

NEC ,December 11th 1981, freezing cold and snowy night, 13 years old and loved every minute of it. I think the ticket was about £8.50!

I can`t wait to see Jeff Lynne for the first time in my life in Zurich in May. I think I gonna cry when I finally see the man in front of me after all those decades listening to his music.

November 5th 1981 at the old Chicago Stadium. Hall and Oat's opened. And then people left. There may have been booing by the ELO fans that couldn't understand why people would leave without even a note being played. The comedy was performed by Fred who broke down. And it seems there was Hydraulic problems, someone only appeared half way up on the stage. I don't remember who. It was a great night. Then we went to the Ritz downtown for dinner. Our parents wanted us to eat somewhere very safe. Around the Old Stadium was not safe. So we ate hamburgers next to Maud Adams, and Shelly Winters table. They asked us odd questions. All in all it was an interesting night. Memorable.

Tuesday April 5th this year will be my first ELO concert - First of many I hope. Although I curse the fact that I missed the classic concerts I console myself with the fact that I was either A. Not born or B. still in nappies.
But this still does not rid me of the sadness that I will not see the full real ELO line up! So instead I will focus on these two thoughts - I, and every other lucky person seeing Jeff for the first time, will get the bonus of viewing the great Richard Tandy (it's like the world's best BOGOF offer) and also we will have the treat of seeing Mr Lynne, who appears to have been preserved in aspic, at his very best, on top form both in attitude and voice .

2nd for me. Hyde Park my first. Got OOTB for xmas 79 from my Mam and Dad. I was 10 years old. Bought every album and single, every import and I listened to nothing else until about 84. Hyde Park brought back so many great memories especially as me Mam died in 2011 and she loved ELO too. I was in tears for the first 10 mins or so. Anyway, I'm going to Newcastle, I've just got tickets for me Brother and me best mate who are both 50th this year. I couldnt bare the thought of them not getting to see JL live as we all listened to the albums together as kids.
