Good reviews, guys! I don't find myself disagreeing with many of the points made, although I do take issue with Helmut83 calling Barry's falsetto annoying. I think it was an important part of the Bee Gees sound during that era, much like the strings were a part of the ELO sound.

Yes it was, no doubt about that. It's just that I don't like it, in the same way some people -I assume- don't like ELO's strings.

Jive Talkin' – I don’t think I’ve ever heard this track from the start; the intro. A great intro and great production. This would be fabulous loud at a disco.
Night Fever – Another great disco track. If I have a party I’ll be playing this loud. I’m actually listening to these tracks with headphones which really gives the songs another dimension since I’ve usually heard them on the radio or on TV.
Tragedy – A big favourite of mine. Unfortunately I came from the generation that had to be introduced to it via Steps. But even they couldn’t spoil it.
You Should Be Dancing – This is the only one I can think of I’m not so keen on but only because I’ve heard a few wrong cover versions of it. It also doesn’t go very far in comparison to the band’s other songs.
Stayin' Alive – I love the bass and the strings here. Very special. This track is a must for anyone who ever plans to walk down the street because you just can’t do it right without this playing in your head!
How Deep Is Your Love – The only reason I can think of to criticise this song is that Take That unfairly covered it so I've heard it lots and always connected it with them. I remember quite liking it at the time even though I hated Take That, maybe I was just so glad they were splitting up (if they hadn’t reformed, who would be Jeff’s backing band now?). I'd forgotten that it's rather a great track indeed. It runs very smoothly.
Too Much Heaven – Rather jazzy this, not as disco-y. I could easily say that this type of song isn’t for me but as it’s the Bee Gees singing they instantly turn this into a great track. Nothing they could sing could ever be bad.
More Than A Woman – “Bald headed woman!" Another track covered by a boy band (so glad not a teenager anymore – my entire musical knowledge seems to come from boy band covers). A great track that you can sing to yourself while doing house work without needing the radio to prompt you with the words.
Nights On Broadway – I’m not so familiar with this track. It’s great to hear something fresh. I like it.
I really loved hearing these Bee Gees songs. They are actually really, really good. For years I just thought of them as "adequate" but they are very special indeed and can take you somewhere better than real life - a place full of disco, glitter balls and happy times. That's what I think anyway. Another good thing about the Bee Gees is that whenever a song of theirs is sung by someone else you can still hear their fingerprints all over it - that's the mark of genius, when your style cannot be wiped out. Just like ELO! Jeff's style is just as sticky and ELO make as much happy music as the Bee Gees. ELO-world and Bee Gees-world are two very underrated destinations.
