Thankfully most of the reviews everywhere are really good for Jeffs new album....I got mine via Amazon and noticed that although there are a good number of great reviews there are also a small number of, quite frankly, horrible reviews - people demanding an album 'like it was in the old days' etc. You know, the usual thing. So...if you have an Amazon account and a few minutes can you go and post a review please....the more decent reviews get posted the better.

There's some daft gonad who's posted, same old Jeff, Sorry and given it 1 star. Now if he thinks all of his stuff is the same and therefore bilge why did he buy it in the first place. Its the idiots who want out of the blue 2 with BB, LC amd MK that irritate me. Its bloody 40 years ago, music and people move on.

I can sympathise with some peoples views about "the classic line up" etc But I can't agree with them .Half the time Hugh Mel and Mik and ,to a lesser degree,Kelly weren't even on the album tracks anyway. Just on the tours and promo stuff. ELO were not really a band in the studio during the later albums. Jeff's sound has changed goodness knows how much over the years. If it hadn't his new stuff would sound like the Idle Race or something. It's fine to have a favourite era of a band but all artists move and evolve and I have enjoyed each phase of Jeff's career for a variety of different reasons. Actually ,one of the reasons I am enjoying AITU so much is listening to all the little nods and throwbacks to the past. (Even on the inner sleeve of the album) whilst wallowing in those beautiful new songs.

Sorry but Bev was never really a good enough drummer. He absolutely fell on his feet in ELO. Technically he was seriously limited. Having said that he's better than JL ! Quite why he didn't just use a session drummer, or the guy from the live band I've got no idea. And I still can't understand why RT wasn't involved in the album. Doesn't make any sense to me. I love the album but there's a bit of me thinks that it would have been something else with more than just JLs input.

Hmmmm....get the feeling ive possibly opened a right big can of worms here.....i mean...well done for going and reading the reviews by, i think, some people who need to open the front door on occasion....i mean...everyone moves on....
Hopefully everyones gone and posted a good review to boost the 5 star rating....if so...job done....great...!
We might all sympathise with the 'old line up was the best line up' etc....would it be different if ELO 2 hadnt formed....would Jeff have them all back then?....who knows....but its no use hanging on to that...Jeffs done a great job on the new album and thats the important thing and he has been getting some great reviews....and....
.....as Jeff says....
'Just remember....that its alright...its alright to be true...and the sun will shine....on you....'

So if (and I KNOW it's not going to happen) Jeff says to Bev,Mik et al,"come on back and we'll have the classic line up etc.." people are saying don't bother,we'd rather just have Jeff? IMO no matter how good the album is,and it is,it's a glorified solo effort just like zoom.cue the hate.......
PS.sorry if that irritates you jackpunch

there will always be unhappy people, even if he could magic larger numbers of this so called classic line-up ..then it would be too little, too late or they should use mack as an engineer etc etc.

As you say...it wont ever happen.....so maybe all future posts could take that in to account before dropping the axe on poor ol Timeblue here....!it is a solo project done under the ELO banner....but i dont see an issue with that....think Phil Collins and Genesis....one and the same....yes ok, the other other two did a bit on the Genesis album but everyone just thinks of Phil Collins...i dont see an issue if Jeff wants to trade on the ELO name a bit...he does own it after all....and, er, Bev traded on it too of course, without Jeff (and ELO2 traded on the original ELO name when selling their albums dont forget).... If you mention Jeff Lynne to people they dont know who he is....but ELO....everyone knows who they are...were....and as one of the reviews says...something along the lines of 'the least known but most talented' in the Wilburys....says it all....

OK, I'm drifting in terms of the thread subject matter but I can't let that Genesis comment go by unanswered thewordsofaaron !!
As a long term fan of theirs since the seventies, it always annoyed me that after Face Value, certain people equated Phil Collins and Genesis as one and the same. They're not, anymore than Peter Gabriel was when he was part of the group. Unlike, Bev, Kelly, Mik and co, Banks and Rutherford remained principle/significant songwriters throughout Genesis' history - enough to release an (admittedly unsuccessful) album without Phil Collins on board.
I do agree though that Jeff has every right to use the ELO name as he now sees fit but of course it's not going to satisfy everyone!

I was using it as an example.....most people im afraid couldnt name the other two geezers in Genesis and most people probably dont know that Gabriel was in Genesis, thats the way it is...yes you are a fan so you could and do (even i like their stuff and i prefer most of the Gabriel bits to latter)...but im talking the layperson in the street...same as no one knows who Jeff Lynne is but mention ELO and hey presto...i wasnt having a go....i was saying it as an example and no more... and i hasten to add that the album released without Collins was a dud....it may have had good stuff on.....im not having a go but its another example of how people equate music to certain things or people....
