For those for whom the lyrics are important, I put together a translation of the lyrics of each of these songs: www.dropbox.com/s/jd9fcfu7nm2h5hq/Calamaro%20translations.doc?dl=0I was thinking about making an auxiliary thread for the translations so that you don't have to download anything, but unfortunately I don't think there's a way of spliting a post into two columns so that you can put the original lyrics in one and their translation to English right beside (if there is, please fix it, Horace, or tell me how to do it).

I've had a look Helmut83 and can't find an easy way, you can do columns but when I copy and paste in the lyrics all the formatting gets lost and so it looks a mess.

Yeah, I think there's no way. Well, leave it like that; if someone wants the meanings of the lyrics they can get them from the uploaded file.

Oh wow. a challenge! I'll give these a listen ASAP....that is, if I can stop listening to "Alone In The Universe", for an hour or so... You know, when I realized it was my turn just two days after Jeff's album was going to be released, I was intending to post it -or propose it- as the album to review, but then Jim reminded me that one of the rules of this section is that no ELO or Jeff Lynne albums can be posted, and he's right. So tough week to post something from an "unknown" artist...

Oh wow. a challenge! Hmmm, OK Helmut, if you say I said that rule, then maybe at one point I probably did. But, these days, as far as I'm concerned in general, anyone can post all the ELO they want. But it's a given this week that we'd be playing the new ELO as well, but we all always play other stuff as well, so no sweat. For my part I'm getting a huge fill of each CD this week, so nothing is getting short-changed! All that said, I strongly encourage everyone to play these Andrés Calamaro tunes thoroughly and give them a good review, for courtesy that Helmut's CD doesn't get overlooked for ELO. It's great stuff from my playing of it so far this week. Yeah, anyone can post ELO or whatever here, but to me it's a moot point, since it's assumed we all play them all the time and thoroughly enjoy them, which is what brought us here to begin with. Jim

Sweet Conviction – Sweet melody. Has a solo McCartney vibe to it. Catchy.
Elvis is Alive – Honestly, the beginning sounds like a kid playing on his Casio keyboard. The rest of it is sort of…..bad. Yeah, I don’t like this one. Thumbs down.
My Illness – Love the Hammond organ sound! Wow, this is a complete turnaround from the previous track. Great ear candy. In a way, it reminds me of Guns & Roses’ “I Used To Love Her”.
You Are Trapping Me Once Again – Kicks off sounding like an old Clapton song from the Derek &The Dominoes era. It has a distinct 70’s feel to it, for sure.
Health (Money and Love) – Is this considered Tejano music? Because it reminds me of a lot of the music Los Lobos did, in that genre. Not bad. Not really my thing, though.
Thin Woman – Was this band at all influenced by Jeff Lynne and ELO? I’m hearing some Lynne-like melodic turns on this song. Enjoyed it. Good pop song.
Ten Years Later – A big, jangly power pop tune. His vocals have an almost Dylan-like thing going on, here.
Perfect Crimes - Sort of a late night ballad.
It Stings – Oh man, this is like a Spanish version of a Rolling Stones song(particularly “Dead Flowers”).
We Can’t Do It Here – Carlos Santana-like, with some reggae thrown in.
You Can’t Live From Love – Good groove, love the percussion. Sounds like a real singalong song. Bet this goes down well, live.
Really glad I gave this a shot. It scores a solid 7/10. One really bad song, but most of the rest of it is very catchy.

My Illness – ...Great ear candy. In a way, it reminds me of Guns & Roses’ “I Used To Love Her”. It has a similarity, particularly in the goove and the strumming. The difference is that this one uses a lot a minor chord, while "Used to love her" doesn't use minor chords at all. As a side note, "Mi enfermedad" is one of the biggest and most well-known rock songs in the Spanish language, arguably the most, and it has been covered by dozens of artists. Health (Money and Love) – Is this considered Tejano music? It's considered a ranchera, which is a Mexican genre, so I guess it's not far away from Tejano music. Thin Woman – Was this band at all influenced by Jeff Lynne and ELO? Interesting to see that you find Jeff's influences on it. I couldn't tell because I knew these songs like 15 or 20 years before I knew ELO. I don't recall Calamaro mentioning ELO among his influences, but it isn't unlikely because he was a kid in the '70s and he has a huge knowledge of music. It Stings – Oh man, this is like a Spanish version of a Rolling Stones song (particularly “Dead Flowers”). Haha... hats off to you, sir... just take a look at this video: Thanks for the review, Chippa, I'm glad you liked it.

Dulce Condena – Great tune. I wish I knew Spanish better but the melody is brilliant. Reminds me of the Beatles. Elvis esta Vivo – Love this. Jolly tune, rather tropical sounding. Doesn’t sound like anything to do with Elvis but what does that matter?
Mi enfermedad – My favourite so far, great intro. I love the organ. Nothing with an organ on is ever bad. If I play any of these songs again (and I will) this will be the first.
Me estas atrapando otra vez – Another great song. This one very different to the last. This reminds me a little of Dylan musically. I like the guitar – tasteful and modest.
Salud (dinero y amor) – This I like a lot. Very Beatles-y – like something written for the White Album or Magical Mystery Tour.
Flaca – These songs keep getting better. I like the tune to this, it reminds me of nearly all the pop/rock songs I already love.
Diez anos despues – A very lovely pop song, upbeat and near perfect. 60s sounding to me.
Crimenes perfectos – This is different – a slow song. Still lovely though. Reminds me of a slow Dylan-type song.
Me arde – Another favourite. No band I’ve heard today write songs as good as this. This is proper music.
Aqui no podemos hacerlo – This is another different one. Reggae style. Reminds me quite a lot of the Clash which is no bad thing. In fact he even sings a little like Joe.
No se puede vivir del amor – Another great song. I’m not sure who this reminds me of. It’s got a bit of everything here. And I’m sure if I knew the words it would be a singalong tune. Even though I don’t can still try to sing along.
I'm glad I heard this music. It's always a nice surprise when you listen to something new that you didn't know about before and find that you love it. There's not a bad song on here. All are the same standard of greatness - mix of pop and rock with terrific melody. You don't have to know the words to enjoy a tune, sometimes hearing the words can be a hindrance. I'll be listening to these all again.
