Guardian....Five albums to try this weekend...I think this was yesterdays copy....anyway....among the five...
Jeff Lynne’s ELO – Alone in the Universe (Columbia) Why you should listen: ELO’s first album since 2001 employs the orchestral flourishes that first became their signature in the 1970s, with Lynne’s voice sounding as emotive as ever.
It might not be for you if… You’re not the biggest fan of ELO’s strings-heavy rock.
What we said: “While Lynne only once comes close to matching the pop perfection of his 70s imperial phase (on the lushly melancholic One Step at a Time), there’s plenty to enjoy elsewhere,” wrote Phil Mongredien, in the Observer

Hello all - brand new here but a longtime ELO fan. I grew up on ELO, that was the music of my youth. I, like all of you, picked up the album as soon as it dropped. And I had a mixed reaction to it at first. But it's all worked out for the best. I wrote up my impressions on my blog, thought I'd share it here for anyone that is curious: windthefrogblog.com/e-l-oh-oh/Cheers! Bob

Bob have you got your tour tickets bob.... the answer to that will be no....as you are american.....doh! interesting review....i reckon, with time for you perhaps, there will be some good elo classics here....maybe your mixing of the albums was a good idea....i havent done that but had AITU on permanently in the car and in the house when i get time alone (not much)....so i already consider the album to be well and truly stand alone good compared to the others and with some great tracks on, some real traditional elo stuff....happy iistening and drop in....

Thanks! I saw it on twitter last night, it was posted by one of the hosts. I included it in the box at the bottom of the blog post.

Very nicely stated in that review. ELO minus the excess. I guess that's what I'm hearing too. But I do enjoy the excess.

Hi all, I'm a young ELO and Jeff fan (early twenties) and trainee journalist currently undertaking my NCTJ studies whilst working freelance for various publications. As a huge fan of Jeff Lynne, I decided to do a review of the album as soon I was able to listen to it in full. My article has been published on The News Hub, which can be found here, if anyone is interested: www.the-newshub.com/music/jeff-lynnes-elo-alone-in-the-universe-album-review. I'd appreciate it some of you would maybe take a look and tell me what you think of the piece? I am just a student, so don't expect anything particularly outstanding but constructive criticism is welcomed as I'm constantly learning... Thanks in anticipation

Hi goodoldrocketlag! I believe a cure's been found for you... Sorry, I'm an awful punster. I liked your review. A member here had included it in a group of review links, but I hadn't had time to read up on them. I laughed at "Alone in the Studio". Being the grammar nazi that I am, I hope you won't mind me mentioning one of my pet peeves, the two inappropriate possessives in paragraph 7, and to be proofreader picky, the placement of the second comma! But I identified well with your assessment of the album contents and the article was an enjoyable read. I hope it has goaded a few folk into getting the album!

Hi, just wanted to share a quick though about the excellent track Dirty to the Bone...I personally think this song is about ALCOHOL ("She'll drag you down until you drown, in sorrow") Moreover, I wonder if Jeff is talking about himself, a sort of self confession, akin to Joe Walsh on One Day at a Time.
