Just got back from the LA show at the Fonda. I ran into old friend Dhani Harrison there. He said he was so happy to see an ELO concert he wanted to cry! (and this is someone who is a very good friend of Jeff!) Tom Petty was sitting a few rows in front of me in the balcony and Joe Walsh was a few tables over from Tom. What a fantastic group of people! And what a great show! I had waited over 30 years for that this night to happen. I am very very pleased. I will sleep well tonight. I have such a big smile on my face as I write this. It''s SO awesome to have all of you... all over the world... to share this with. Thanks everyone! I'm happy to be associated with this great group of people. Attachment Deleted

Agreed, it was a fantastic show! A buddy and I'd gone down to LA from San Jose to see the Jimmy Kimmel show, which, while terrific, just wasn't enough. So we poked at the ticket website all through the next day and got very lucky about mid-afternoon. We had tickets for the Fonda! The theater is beautiful, the band was tip-top (no flubs on Evil Woman tonight, but a couple of oops-moments here and there). Still, a very, very solid show. Looking over the New York setlist I think it was exactly the same show (going from memory): Set List: "All Over The World" "Evil Woman" "Showdown" "Turn to Stone" "When I Was a Boy" "Livin' Thing" "One Step at a Time" "Strange Magic" "Don't Bring Me Down" "Steppin' Out" "Sweet Talkin' Woman"
"Can't Get It Out Of My Head" "When the Night Comes" "Ain't It a Drag" "Rock & Roll Is King" "Telephone Line" "Mr. Blue Sky" Encore: "Roll Over Beethoven" Through it all Jeff was affable and just seemed happy to be there. He gave us the thumbs up after every song, and introduced songs as 'little ditties' or 'bouncy old ones' or 'a really good rocker' - just little self-effacing mentions. Kingoftheuniverse already mentioned Tom Petty and Joe Walsh, but there was another guest that just made everyone cheer - Ringo Starr came in and took a seat in the balcony. Same row as Tom Petty, just the opposite side of the theater. We really thought that maybe, just maybe Ringo and Tom would hop up on stage with Jeff, but unfortunately that didn't happen. When the show was done and Ringo was leaving we watched him from the floor, knowing that everyone has to turn and look at the stage one last time before walking out of a show. Sure enough, as he reached the end of the aisle Ringo turned and looked down. We clapped and cheered for him, and gave him Jeff's double thumbs-up. He did the classic Ringo little jump of surprise, busted out a big grin and waved a double peace sign back to us as he stepped out of the theater. I'll remember that! We'd made friends with some other fans while waiting in the Kimmel line the night before, and were delighted to run into them at the Fonda after the show. They'd waited in the standby line and had all gotten in (after the first three songs were done, but hey, they got in!). We all hung out for a good while afterwards while the theater's security people tried to coax us to move along. We saw the three women that are ELO's string section heading upstairs for the after-party and gave them a cheer (they seemed very happy about that). And outside the theater we saw a couple of other notables leaving. Guillermo del Toro signed some autographs (including doing little sketches of himself below the signature), and Peter Asher was stopped for autographs as well. The show was terrific, my ears are still ringing this morning. I've been a fan since I was a kid in the 70's, but had never seen the band before. Now I've seen two shows in two days! Fantastic.

Nice reviews kingoftheuniverse and bobpony! I arrived at the venue around 4:30 to get in line with an extra ticket, knowing there would be someone who would need one - and there were indeed plenty of people in need. After standing in line for about three minutes, someone approached who had recognized me from the Kimmel taping. We had a quick chat regarding the night before when he then informed me he was without a ticket. I told him he's in the right place at the right time, and he's in the house - looks like I made a friend for life haha! When they started letting people in the venue we made a beeline towards the stage. (We can be seen in kingoftheuniverse's photo - nearly center/nearly front rail - Jeff in the cowboy hat, and myself to his right). We saw Joe Walsh and producer Don Was in the balcony, and were looking for more A-listers when I thought I saw Dhani Harrison, kind of spoke out loud to myself 'there's Dhani', and everyone around me said "where"!!! when Ringo entered there was a massive eruption of cheers from the floor in which he then acknowledged us all. In the same room as Ringo - yowza! Then the show began, and I'll admit I was a bit teary eyed during several tunes...memories literally flooded. Livin' Thing, Strange Magic, Sweet Talkin' Woman, Can't Get It Out Of My Head - holy smokes it was heavenly. Like bobpony, I've been a fan since I was a kid in the 70's and had never seen them - turned out to be one of the best shows I've seen in all of my concert going days. For those in the UK, you are in for a massive treat! In the meantime, I'll be reliving the memories and hoping for a return of ELO to the US for an extended tour in which I'll happily see every show scheduled in the Southern California area!

Sounds like one hell of an experience. From other reviews I've seen, Jackson Browne, Herbie Hancock, and Jason Lytle from the band Grandaddy were also in the VIP section.
