It's got to be Out of the Blue.
The gatefold sleeve, the inside of the spaceship, the glossy vibrant colours, ELO members as astronauts, my first ELO album.

I do love On the Third Day, if it was in colour it wouldn't be half so cool and I love their deadpan faces, it's brilliant. And is that eyeliner, Mr Lynne? Ooo, I love a man in eyeliner....
Eldorado is OK, it's nice and colourful and all but I do get a bit "meh" when it gets raved about by arty types. Probably aimed more at the US than the UK.
However Out of the Blue is in another league for me. It was the first album I ever bought aged 14 and I got a right telling-off from my Dad for it because he thought it was such a waste of money. The cover is such a clever move on from ANWR and really created an image for ELO which still endures (maybe re-done a few too many times on subsequent covers?) Not to mention the amazingness of the gatefold, the puzzling "make a spaceship" and the airbrushed portraits, it's never been bettered. *votes OOTB*

this was a tough one. they are all unique but On The Third Day was like gold dust to me when i was a teenager. in fact from being an ELO fan from the mid 80's to the age of 16, i could not find this album anywhere. so managing to get a vinyl copy for my 16th birthday was bloody amazing. i spent years wondering what it was like. all i knew was it had King Of The Universe and Ma Ma Ma Belle on it. it was way beyond my expectations. then trying to find it on CD was the next task. months later i skipped school and went to Virgin Megastore in my hometown bored out of my skull i had a look around then went to have a look at the ELO section. which consisted of 3 or 4 CD's. had a quick look and low and behold, the holy grail!!!! On The Third Day!!!! not the recent remeaster that can be found everywhere. this was the mid 90's. with the Black and White cover. then came the kicker. i had no money. i picked it up and asked an assistant if they wouldn't mind putting it behind the counter and i'll come back in an hour.got home, explained to my mum what happened. she was pissed off. now luckily, i rarely asked my parents for much. but i debated and pleaded like made for money to get this CD. my mum gave me the ultimatum that i can get it but it is a easter gift lol. yeah, i managed to talk my way into having the album not long after i got it home. it was worth coming clean lol. so that my friends is why i have voted for On The Third Day

Nice story, Jamie. I'm not a big fan of belly buttons unless they look something like this: And Jeff's, Bev's and the other's belly buttons certainly don't look anything like that, so "On the third day" is discarded for me. I like Eldorado's cover. It certainly has it's mystery, but it's not an original idea (it's taken from "The wizard of Oz"). That's the reason I'll go with "Out of the Blue", which not only is an original idea but it is also very attractive visually and very iconic of ELO.

OOTB - It says ELO in big familiar letters on a brightly coloured spaceship, what more can you ask for?

Face the Music, Time and Secret Messages.
How the alternate On the Third Day cover made it this far is beyond my compression... comprehension.
