"You may think, It's for real, But you know, How you feel..." "And I try, And I try, And I try, And I try..." I absolutely adore this somewhat overlooked ELO gem. One thing I feel when I hear AITU songs is that they fade a bit too quickly. Buebird faded just right.

I like the song, but "work..work" always makes me giggle with embarrassment.

It is a bit of an overlooked goodie, I agree. Was it a single?

Incredibly, the only singles from Secret Messages were Rock 'N' Roll Is King, the title track, Four Little Diamonds and Stranger, though only the first two had promotional videos shot for them, mainly due to the fact Bev was already rehearsing for Black Sabbath's world tour in support of Born Again, plus Kelly being deep into his lawsuit against Jet Records for 25% of ELO's royalties from when he joined in October 1974.
As for that "work!" sample, it's perhaps the most obvious vocal contribution from Dave Morgan on the album (played through his modified Oberheim synthesiser, which he affectionately called Dennis). Further prominent audible examples of his input during the Wisseloord sessions include the "Spatch and Mail" chant heard throughout Hello My Old Friend, not to mention a convincing Scouse accent on Beatles Forever.

Sweet Jesus, ShardEnder, are you...like.....Jeff? You sure know your stuff. Brilliant. Thanks. You know, now that I think about it....I am CONVINCED that I heard Bluebird just a couple of times on the radio back then. I was thrilled that one of my favourite songs was going to be a big smash hit. That never happened of course. But could radio stations play "album tracks" as they pleased in 1983?

Stupid question, what is AITU? AITU= Alone in the Universe Ah, became confused, since I expected some connection to Bluebird. Thanks!

ShardEnder is the man when it comes to ELO trivia. Interesting input, as always.

Yes I love this song - one of the best from Secret Messages. Fantastic keyboards from Richard.

Despite Jeff claiming that he wrote Bluebird on an Oberheim synthesiser (presumably the OB-Xa that he first used during the Time sessions), you can tell the difference between his own playing and Richard Tandy's... The opening keyboard line might be Lynne's, but those later flourishes could only have come from "Magic Fingers" himself!
