While we're waiting... what are you hoping for? It always seemed slightly ironic to me that since Jeff started working with other artists, his sound has evolved much more slowly than it did when he was just focused on ELO. The transition in sound from one ELO album to the next always amazed me. For example, even if you didn't like Balance Of Power, at least it didn't sound like anything before it. So will there be surprises on the new album or will it be Jeff's recent sound with a few more strings? Personally. I'm hoping for a few surprises and maybe a few nods to yesteryear. Not that I'm expecting (or wanting) a return to Out Of The Blue excess. But some Face The Music-style orchestration would be welcome, which (IMO) was the last time ELO genuinely sounded like a performing rock band on record. And maybe some Roy! Let's say, on a duet called No Answer in an ironic nod to the infamous album title cock up But what do you expect or hope for?

I would like a bit of a mixture, some songs in the vane of the ANWR and OOTB period would be great and then some new sounding songs with a new drummer would be good.

Jeff has had a lot of great influences low these past “1001+” years. With this in mind, I hope he uses the best of these, sprinkle in some of his ‘70’s vibe, and just create fun, mind blowing ELO songs. Another "concept" album will be fine with me. Also, as on Zoom, he brings in a few buddies (Joe Walsh, I hope you answered your phone).
Maybe a double album as a "thank-you for waiting" gift?

I'd like him to make the material slightly more guitar oriented. Due to the dominance of the ELO string sound a lot of people don't realise just what a good guitarist he is.

Yep, sounds about right. I'm with BSJ too, about having a double album to make up for all the suspense, and bringing back some proper fun tracks with a classic ELO sound. The sort he could easily reproduce live, for instance wiggle

I'm with billwebster: 12 (not just 10) solid good songs. That's all I'm asking for. And I'm not too keen on the idea of a concept album at this point in his career, I'm not sure why. I'd agree with BSJ about the double album as long as he doesn't need fillers to stretch it for being double; if he does need to do that, then better let it be a 1-CD album. Although, to answer the question of the subject in first place, what I expect from this album is to come out. Nothing more, but nothing else. At this point I'm fearing there's a big chance that Jeff will go to a better place before he releases this famous new album of his. And no, by "a better place" I don't mean Bungalow Palace, as he is already there.

Oh, you can bet there'd be filler in a double. Lazy Damey. I'd still be fine with this. Zoom has 13 songs so there's hope for more than 10. I did read somewhere he said "...be surprised at what I'm doing..." something to that effect. Give a fat rat's a** about surprises, just get it out. I'm losing interest. Tick, tock.

The only way Jeff could really surprise me is if he drops the "Wilbury sound" he's been sticking to since Cloud Nine and returns to his early '80s approach... I'm talking drum machines, sequencers, plenty of keyboard twiddly bits (preferably being played by Richard "Magic Fingers" Tandy), sped-up backward messages, digital reverb and compressors set to stun, all recorded in a proper studio and not just various rooms around Bungalow Palace! Oh, and would it be too much to ask for a few strings to be buried somewhere in the mix along with a cement mixer and a sampled dog or two?
Seriously, instead of Zoom 2.0, wouldn't it be great if Jeff's taste for kitchen sink production values and sci-fi insipred lyrics suddenly returned? At the very least, I'd like to think he's got one last all-out rocker like Danger Ahead or Let It Run left in him, rather than playing it safe. By surprising us, I suspect he might be revisiting some of the more ambitious aspects of Armchair Theatre such as the Indian element heard in certain tracks or possibly taking a leaf from Take That, since he's developed quite a few links with them in recent years - maybe a contemporary pop album?

ShardEnder: wouldn't what you wish be like "Time part 2"? "Time" was a very inspired album and is regarded by many fans (myself included) as the best ELO album, so I think it would be quite risky to try to go back to that sound unless you've got material of an extraordinary quality, as good as the set of songs of "Time" at least. I think otherwise it would be prone to be regarded as a failed 2nd part to the 1981 album.

Add some cello's no 1950's sounding covers back-masking and hidden stuff Ask Bev and Mik to guest Add some cello's use a choir or female backing singers and on one song use the vocoder sing stuff backwards or play stuff backwards don't write about whales , Mandalay or those Secret Lies oh yeah and ADD SOME CELLO'S

That's a drastic simplification. Did you know that Jeff's fascination with room sounds can be traced back to his ELO days. Mack said in an interview that there are a lot of proper room sounds on ELO records. Moreover Jeff Lynne's bungalow palace has evolved into a state of the art studio, and comparing it to the analogue Wilbury sound, he now heavily relies on digital equipment and Pro Tools plug-ins. Moreover, he uses more special effects again. In fact looking at his recent production work he doesn't stick to one particular formula at all (compare Take That, Bryan Adams, Joe Walsh, Regina Spektor). Finally listening to Point Of No Return, it reminds me A LOT of Eighties ELO.

I want a ELO album where the classic lineup is featured on all of the tracks (Kelly Groucutt might have to be resurrected) and the production is characteristically dry with each instrument mic'd up to the max! also Beatles Forever should be reworked as a slow 80's-esque ballad for a possible song release and be the album closer
