I remember Dave Edmunds was very happy with working with Jeff at the time, something must have happened between them over the years. Maybe Dave went in a huff for not been asked to be a Travelling Wilbury.

I remember Dave Edmunds was very happy with working with Jeff at the time, something must have happened between them over the years. Maybe Dave went in a huff for not been asked to be a Travelling Wilbury. I remember reading an interview at the time when Edmunds said "Now that guy (Jeff) really knows how to make a record" so was more than happy at the time. Strange comments about ELO sounding "dated and contrived". If anything ELO songs seem to get better with age - like a vintage wine. That's not just my opinion but the legions of musicians today who cite Jeff and ELO as an influence. As for contrived? Hardly. If anything it's the opposite. Interesting how you never hear Jeff slating other artists - even those he fell out with. About the only quote you'll find is the one telling Kelly "instead of spending all his money on lawyers maybe he should check his contracts".

Personally I really love "Riff raff," I reckon pretty much every track is a catchy treat. It was a big flop and did nothing for Dave's career though, so it's fair enough that he doesn't look back on it so fondly now.
