There is a nice ditty at the end of my BOP cd called "In For The Kill, elophile. I think there are only three songs that I like on Discovery, and I chose three from that album for my least like list. Ahhhh, Jeff - will you have photos of us at concerts main gates saying that we are not to be let in? Oh, I missed one? I was going to spread my votes around more -- but upon listening to BOP again I was like "nope, nope, nope -- these are ALL my least favorite ELO songs"

If you read attentively and between lines you could get a certain subliminal hint that makes you suspect Elophile might not completely adore "Balance of power".

OK, here goes my ranking. I could have made it almost entirely of proggy songs from the first 3 albums, but I tried to give it some variety with stuff Jeff did over different ELO eras. 1. " Turn to stone": absolutely loathable, from the intro with it's annoying synthetizers (bassline included), to the silly chorus, to the part where they say many things very fast. To make matters worse, Jeff always seemed obsessed with including in on every live set and compilation album. 2. " Battle of Marston Moor": it is rumored that if you manage to sit through all of this torture, God takes you directly to heaven with no previous trial and you are automatic candidate for being a saint or even a martyr. 3. " Mr. Blue Sky": ELO being so underestimated can be blamed to the fact that this corny, cheesy song is their most well-known hit. It doesn't make justice to Jeff Lynne's greatness and it's the wrong neon banner to advertise the band's discography. 4. " Another heart breaks": completely dull and emotionless song that prevents "Time" from being a perfect album. 5. " All around the world": I don't usually give importance to lyrics, but the fact that he directs his message to " everybody all around the world" and tells them he has heard there's going to be a party all over the world (so, who was going to hold it, if no one knew it was going to happen?) works so wrong in so many levels that the musical part being bad too is almost anecdotal. 6. " The whale": a very heavy whale it was. ZzZzZz... during 5 minutes. 7. " Mission (a world record)": OK with the alien thingy, but to this human ears it must be the worst song of the golden ELO era (1975-1979). 8. " Last train to London": only another Latin American guy would fully understand me on this one, but when you have heard people claim that "ELO did other things besides LTTL" as if he had discovered something extraordinary, you would understand how much this disco song has been overplayed around these latitudes. 9. " Night in the city": whenever I hear this song I picture the band all dressed in pink and light blue tutus happily singing in that high-pitched voice while waving their hands and dancing around the stage. Just sissy. 10. " Showdown": I don't really hate this one. To me it is barely an OK song, but it's the fact that it is so exaggeratedly glorified what gets me against it. Special mentions to every song on the first album except for "10538 Overture" (Jeff was trying too hard -and with bad results- to mix up symphonic music and rock here), "From the sun to the world", "New world rising", "Daybreaker", "Dreaming of 4000", "It's over", "Mandalay", "Train of gold", "Letter from Spain", "I'm alive", "Send it" and "Shine a little love". Geez, I was thinking it would be hard for me to choose 10 least favorite ELO songs, but at the end I had trouble leaving some out of the list!

Beautiful, just a great review with, again, your keen insight and wit, Helmut83. Makes me want to redo mine! BUT!!! Disqualification Alert! I must disqualify your list. I don't like some of your choices. Maybe next time, dude!

Oh, dear, I was going to suggest that The Street Next Door record a cover version of Turn To Stone, my fave ELO song. I'll even let you sing the part where they say many things very fast...

To choose instrumental songs is just so lazy. Especially since it is so obvious that Jeff put instrumental songs on the albums just to fill them out.

Yeah, I'm so sorry, Vlogdance, I know you like that song but I'm afraid trying to cover it goes too much against the musical tastes of this 1/3rd of The Street Next Door. What if we tried doing one named "Turn back to flesh", trying to make it, as it's name suggests, the exact opposite of the ELO song? We could even make a part where we say few things very slow.

You have keen intuition, helmut. What was it that tipped you off? Just my detective 6th sense, you know... Others might not notice anything strange there, but I'm really quick and smart. My mother always says so.

Helmut83, and you thought me brutal!? My favorites that made me laugh out loud! "Battle of Marston Moor", "All around the world"(picky, picky), "The whale", "Night in the city". I really appreciate you taking a good amount of time on this.

Least Favorite ELO Song Rating #2
Well Marston Moor is kicking some serious butt!
If I counted right, there are 8 or 9 members who played Helmut's, have not done so here. If you do plan on it, pls. let me know or get your list in by 24th. (except you uno. I want it, like now )
I found when proofing, making sure songs and numbers are correct, that for some reason the line #16 Drum Dreams was left off this list, as well as It's Over (they're in Excel). So with out having to mess with it here: #16 Drum Dreams had 1 vote, total of 10. It's Over had 1 vote, total of 9
AND as was pointed out to me by Horacewimp (and a veiled threat by Helmut83) Painted Lady & Nobody's Child are the same song. Two voted for, total 14
