In a bookshop this morning, spotted a hardback entitled "Second City: Birmingham and the Forging of Modern Britain". Just had to peek inside to see if our heroes got a mention. And wasn't disappointed.

"formed by the veterans of various Birmingham bands" A tidy sentence. Veterans = a robust history.

Today Boom Radio played a Vintage Top 20 from 1973. Highest new entry at 14 was Showdown.

This morning on his show Les Ross was talking about movie stars, and joked "Last time I went to the pictures it was to see the new release Xanadu. Great songs in that film...although this wasn't one of them." He then played Hold On Tight, by"...the fabulous Electric Light Orchestra." (his words). EDIT: He later played Blackberry Way by The Move ("a bunch of brilliant Brummies") and mentioned the ELO connection.

Not sure if this belongs in Sights and Sounds, Happy Birthday, or Randomness, but here goes...
For the past six months or so, I've been co-presenting a request show on my local hospital radio station. Tonight, played Roy's 1973 hit Forever and wished him a happy birthday on air. With the other presenters, we always have a joke that I try to get ELO on the playlist every week.😸
The radio station has an internet link, but you really don't want to hear me squeezing my terrible jokes in between my colleague's fluent, professional introductions!

Just switched on That's TV - 1970s and was rewarded with the Confusion video.

Spotted this novelty mug for sale on eBay today. The design's a clever take-off of the ATV logo, below (ATV, or Associated Television, was the regional broadcaster in the Midlands region of the UK.)

On Johnny Walker's Sounds Of The 70s this afternoon guest Francis Rossi (Quo) chose Steppin' Out as a favorite 70s track. He is/was quite pally with Jeff especially in the late 60's in The Idle Race days and later on and is a big admirer of JL.

There must be some sort of magic in the air lately...
I discovered a new local radio station a while back because I heard "Livin' Thing" playing in someone else's car, and have been listening in the hopes of hearing some less-common ELO on there again. It finally paid off the other day when I heard "Roll Over Beethoven" (and it was the Wembley or Bust recording, of all things!) on the way to work, and "Telephone Line" on the drive back home!
And I know that Spotify is a global platform, but the advertisements are usually tailored to one's local region, so I quite surprised to have just heard a snippet of "I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day".
