When Discovery was released, how well was it received by hard core fans? He got rid of 2/3 of the orchestra and went very Disco. As that sound waned so did ELO's popularity. After Xanadu they were not getting a lot of radio play.

I bunked off school the day Discovery was released so I could go home and listen to it. I noticed the difference to it from OOTB but it somehow seemed a very polished album and I like it.

I never really got the disco aspect of the album, which was strange 'cos I love disco. I remember how crisp it sounded on my Panasonic music centre. I also remember having the sheet music book (still got it somewhere) and all my class mates signed it (Bernadette Osborne wrote "I've signed it even tho' they're a metal band") Clearly she needed educating

My current car is a Mazda No Answer ( in Electric Blue)

It's a Discovery Sport Timeblue, I've only had it a week but it seems very good apart from one annoying rattle, I have to turn up ELO to drown it out, I should get a half day off road experience nickheynes I plan to do it at Eastnor Castle

I was a bit disappointed when I first heard Discovery but it did grow on me. Expectations were ridiculously high after OOTB, I'm quite glad Jeff did the next album in a different vein instead of sticking with the same formula. What a coincidence, all of us having ELO related cars - I love swanning around in my Seat Secret Messages in Blue Bird Blue (yes, I KNOW that's a Scarlet Lies Red one, I blame the lack of a classy Blue Bird Blue coloured car smiley )

I can't say anything because my parents hadn't even met when Discovery came out.

Great times when Discovery came out. Out of The Blue was such a REVELATION, that my expectations for Discovery were through the roof. I thought it was great from the beginning. I remember noticing the absence of McDowell and Gale on the inner sleeve.
Last Train To London was the summer hit of that year, at least for me personally.
