I think Betty Ford - send your cards and good wishes there. If we keep making jokes about Michael Jackson singing his favorite sacred cow ELO songs, we might really drive him to have to go there! Now "Livin' Thing", that might sound good with the whole Jackson 5, eh? Maybe water it down to a more Osmondy type of sound and some ABC style vocals, and hey! Jim

depending on how you look at jeffs output...how about....
'its still not ready'.....
or....two famous lines, either could be used....
'is it still on'....or
'how does it go?'

^ I might have dreamed this, but isn't there an extended ending to one of his songs which ends up with him saying "TIME TO GO!" in a doomy way? Possibly off the Time album? Or am I thinking of his only line in the famed black and white film with Roy and Bev and the lady with the big boobies? If there is I'll go for that, otherwise I'll plump for "Don't wanna go but it's On With The Shoooowwww" or even "Please wait for me, I'll be there at the End of the Road" I know they're not exactly obituaries but would look great on his headstone

Yes, and this is why I refuse to think of one. There are a few that are clever.

I really don't like to think about that day either. But it's unhealthy to shun all thoughts of our mortality, contrary to what our youth-obsessed western culture preaches at us.
This does bring to mind the great song by Harry Lauder which Jeff recorded:
Keep right on to the end of the road Keep right on to the end Tho' the way be long, let your heart be strong Keep right on to the end Tho’ you're tired and weary still journey on, Till you come to your happy abode Where all you love, you've been dreaming of Will be there, at the end of the road.
So there is great solace in singing a song that celebrates life and hope, even at the end of the road. There's "comfort food," but Jeff's songs have always been to me, "Comfort Tunes"

One more thought and then I'm done here, seriously and this epitaph could be for me or anybody, who knows when our time will come, I've lost some goode friends and family, as has Jeff and many of us; it's all part of the cycle of life. But this is just an exquisitely beautiful line from Eldorado Overture: "The Universal Dreamer Rises Up Above His Earthly Burden"
