thread subtitle: forum post topics reach an all-time low -----------------------------------------
But half-joking aside, if there was one song that Jeff Lynne gave to Michael Jackson instead of did with ELO or solo, that MJ could really shred on, what would it be?
I think "Need Her Love" might have been a good one for him to sing.

A few, actually. Starlight, Evil Woman, Last Train To London, Showdown, and maybe even Long Black Road.

Did you know that? In 1978, Michael Jackson came to a photo shoot session with an ELO pin on his jacket (he was an ELO fan). He wanted to keep his jacket for the photos but the photographer asked him to take off it... Too bad!

Jim - I don't think your thread is out of left field at all. I had an ELO Pandora radio station that played lot's of Michael Jackson. I thought it was odd but there must be a musical connection there.

OK, thanks for the assurance, elophile. :-) Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking that late 70's pop-disco-ey thing they definitely shared in common. I guess they say the amazing thing about the album "Thriller" is that if you leaned more rock, pop, or disco, the whole thing seemed to really cover all the bases very well. Jim

I never thought there was a Michael Jackson/ELO connection but really there are a lot of similarities in their sounds. Almost any ELO song could have been recorded by Jackson. Definitely 'Showdown', possibly 'Wild West Hero' and 'Strange Magic'. 'Mission (A World Record)' and 'Shangri-La' maybe. A lot of the tracks on Time could be suitable such as 'From the End of the World'. I've have loved to hear an 80s Jackson version of '10538 Overture'.

Mr. Jim,
Did you really think the concept of this thread was going to get a negative reaction, or was the last sentence of your first post an "aw shucks" style of put-on?
Anyway, I'll offer the thread's first (and most likely last) dissenting opinion: no ELO / Jeff song that comes to mind at the moment. From what I can remember, Jackson's voice was much too high pitched to fit the average ELO track... it's also hard to imagine where the screams and shamones would fit, as well.

I thought it was a good question, but I know Michael Jackson is considered odd/strange/overly-sentimental, etc. by some, so wasn't sure if there would be any hostility at the question. Jim

Three words: Train of Gold. Although probably in a different key...

From what I can remember, Jackson's voice was much too high pitched to fit the average ELO track... A good majority of ELO songs after Eldorado were sang in a higher pitch, especially the choruses.

I thought you were going to say that MJ should have sang the whole "Time" album. Jim
