Which version do you think is the best?

No contest, the original. The Anniversary Edition is muted, all cleaned up. What was the point, why was this done?

Never having been very fond of 10538 Overture, I prefer the alternative. Less overtly Beatles, more like ELO a la Eldorado. I've always found Roy's massive overdubs in the final section just a cacophony, so I find the cleaner version more listenable.

It's as if Jeff took a liberal amount of Mr Sheen and polished the whole thing till it shines

The original - though I wasn't aware that the 40th AE was any different until now.

Original version, the whole kitchen sink thing is part of the appeal for me. Plus I like hearing Woodeye's voice on it; in the alternate version it's as if Jeff is trying to claim all the credit. Naughty.
