It's great to hear George's tasty slide guitar, again, too. I'm pretty sure Paul said he added the slide, in the style of George. George was pretty half-hearted about Now and Then originally and AFAIK the only contribution he made in the Anthology sessions was to strum along. So in effect he can barely be discerned in the new recording.

The video adds a nice emotional touch to the song, and really enhances the effect. I like it. All the emotions I felt were due to seeing them. Listening to the music alone I lost interest.

Now And Then like Free As A Bird was taken from a cassette recording. My question is, were both songs of the same initial quality? If so I'd love to hear FAAB cleaned up using today's technology. John's vocal on that always sounded like a demo and to my ears sat awkwardly next to Paul's.

Having said that, I think the Anthology version has a certain rough charm.

I'd just like to hear what it COULD sound like that's all.

....and to throw some kindling on the fire, people are moaning that John wrote this after the Beatles broke up, and he was very clear about his feelings toward the whole mess, so it should not have been considered for a Beatles song.

It's an interesting point - he'd probably have had something pithy to say about the whole enterprise if he could.

People on the internet moaning and whining? No way, come on! Crazy talk. lol

There it is! That snappy Beatles sound with a cow bell! I'm wanting to listen to this version more than a few times. And I'm not sad.

Thirded! It makes a lot more sense to me; the original version is nice in a dreamy way but not a patch on this.
