Juliana Hatfield, known for, among other things, her innovative take on Olivia Newton-John and The Police (great cover albums) will release a new album in November. Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO is released on November 17. She has of course already a few years back released her cover of Sweet Is The Night (massive points for choice of song). Don't Bring Me Down is available on Youtube (etc.) already:

I'm looking forward to listening to that. I remember her fondly from the '90s indie rock scene.

Honestly, that's a pretty tepid cover of DBMD. However, if she's doing songs like Ordinary Dream, and From The End of the World, she must be a pretty dedicated fan.

To elaborate on what was already mentioned, she'd previously covered three songs from Xanadu on an album paying tribute to ONJ (which also helped raise money for charity), so I think it's safe to call her one of the more dedicated fans. I'm especially interested to see how From The End Of The World and Ordinary Dream turn out, plus it's always good to know a track like Secret Messages could soon potentially be reaching a wider audience.

I'll definitely check it out when it's released. It's always interesting to hear other artists' interpretations of Jeff Lynne's songs, even if I may not always love them.

DBMD seems slightly slow, but I think that will grow on me..... or maybe turn the song into a blues number! Definitely going to watch for this release.

2023 has been a very slow year for Jeff's ELO. We should all be thankful that other artists are keeping his music relevant.

Don't Bring Me Down is available on Youtube (etc.) already: I heard this on the radio today. WTMD does a 5 o'clock shadow feature M-F, where they play a cover of a well known song and give some clues before hand for people to guess the original artist, new artist, song title, ... Today was Don't Bring Me Down

"Relevant" is an awful adjective to express that because ultimately what's relevant is subjective. Jeff's Lynne music will always be relevant to us fans and will always be irrelevant to people who dislike it. Rather than keeping it "relevant" I'd say keeping it on the scene or something like that.

Meaning that the music of ELO will be played by other groups long after the passing of Jeff.

The next generation will have a go at these tunes whenever Jeff decides to calls it quits.

And that is exactly why I am happy that Louis Clark Jr. is taking over his father's role in the Orchestra - he has all the sheet music his dad created for the orchestrations during his time with the original ELO.
