The Mayflies USA have a song called "The Greatest Thing", which sounds quite a bit like "Secret Lives", believe it or not.

World Party sounding like ELO isn't really true. They both sound like The Beatles, though...

I know a lot of people like me jest that everything Lynne touches and/or produces sounds like ELO.
Maybe that could be the case, but still it's only an assumption.

I can imagine Jeff pointing a gun at his artists and threading to shoot them if they don't succumb to his drum sound. XD

XD You know according to Tom Petty, there was serious squabblings going on when Jeff was recording to "Full moon fever album". Jeff would take in every artist one at a time and record them individually and then work his "Magic" and the band were not used to this way of recording....They would play live and record. Tom Petty seemingly ripped them all a new one and told them this was the way the album was being done putting our Jeff firmly at the helm and if someone did'nt like the way it was done "They knew where the door was"!!

Neil Hannon is an ELO fan, and he was deliberately doing an ELO thing with this one:
And then there's this, of course. Not exactly "ELO-sounding" overall, but is based one one ELO song.

Here and there I see ELO compared to some fairly obscure artists/songs from the 70's that make me think...DO ELO really sound like that?? (Nothin I can think of off the top of my head...) I'm talkin this really weird cheesy depressing strange kind of music that makes me BEG that this isn't what ELO really sounds like to casual listeners on first listen. I percieve ELO as ahead of their time, fresh, creative and MUSICALLY very in-depth and intricate; very few notes wasted. Typically. All this being said...
Check out bands like Mean Lady, Fleet Foxes, Local Natives, Fitz and the Tantrums, Broken Bells, etc etc. If not directly influenced by ELO, they are influenced by bands who were influenced by ELO. They take after Lynnes poppy "hook-laden" semi-extended pop-form with the melancholic vocal lines and etc etc etc etc, y'all get the gist

Essentially the indie scene is blasting with ELO-alikes and spacy melodic poppy pleasure. Mmm.

Alternative/Indie music is the place to look if you like hooks and melody Jeff Lynne and ELO did so well.
