It can't be just me that can hear the ELO in Silver Sun's 'Lava' can it? I bought this single before I'd even considered liking Jeff Lynne.

Definitely some ELOishness, especially at the beginning.

Ok Lynnites! Strange one here! But its does smell of On the third day/ Eldorado! Also worth a mention is a track from '90/91 by a band called Jellyfish..called the King is half undressed! (especially the bridge in the middle section)!! Ohh's and ahh's! This track here though is currently being used in a Lancome ad with Julia Roberts! Keep truckin kids!

The Daybirds were a great power pop outfit from Kansas City. Very ELO influenced, as you can tell by this song, "All We Need Is Time".Also, shades of "Pepper"-era Beatles.

That Daybirds track sounds a lot like the missing link between the Beatles and ELO. Very Idle Race and, indeed, very McCartney.

The Daybirds remind me of Pugwash too (on Page 1) I wasn't on the previous forum but I'm betting this had a nomination there

Every so often this tune would come into my head and I'd start to hum it but without having a clue as to where I'd got it from. So far this is the best non-ELO ELO-style song I've heard!

This bloody track has been in my bonce for 20 years and I have had no name to chase in that time! !!!!!! Arggggg 2nd bottle of wine just opened! Im as happy as a pig in shit! I love the vid! Side movement over the invisible cellist and violin players courtest of George Harrisons "Fab" vid.....oh lady I could kiss the face off you! BTW! does anyone else think in a wierd way this track sounds a tad like "pipes of peace" by McCartney?. I didn't want to put it up here as it would be stepping outof the forum topic. But I think Iit really does resemble the track iMO.....

Sam Smith, Im not the only one, sounds very ELO to me on those string/synth bits....but then, i guess that may be rather generalistic and could be applied to loads of groups or people....ahhhhh......

I'm not sure about ELO but this Sam Smith track has tones of Tom Petty's 'I Won't Back Down' about it -

I like his voice, and the soulful vibe . Definitely better than most young pop stars who autotune their voices to death. Here's another that comes to mind. Pretty Jeff-like, if not exactly ELO-like.
