Yay! Thanks, guys! I agree with what both Jim and Chippa's reviews. My girls were all about RK when they were 12-13 just like I was all about ELO when I was that age. These guys were very young at the time this was recorded, and although many of the songs sound the same, it was great for long car trips. The band improved year after year and did get better with variety, but their last album was very disappointing.
Jim- I forgot you were Catholic... me too! And I loved Rich Mullins. Did you know something about he was taking instructions and about to enter the Church right before he died?

That would have been great if he would have lived to become one; seems some references to it on his last two or three albums. Guess he probably has it even better now that he's actually up there! Jim

As promised: The One I'm Waiting For - I'm not an expert on the genre, but it reminds me of Wheatus and Green Day and those sort of teen-metal bands. If more teenagers listened to this kind of stuff instead of Justin Beiber and blimmin' Rihanna the world would be a better place. Good, rousing opening. Be My Escape - keeps up the pace, liking the tinkly keyboards which make it a bit different from just a guitar and drum-fest. Strange, bolted on ending. High of 75 - Whee! Off we go again, perfect for working off juvenile energy with a spot of pogo-ing or suchlike. It's a happy sound, I like it. I So Hate Consequences - Can't fault the liveliness of this album so far, and they seem to be really enjoying themselves which is something that always appeals to me in a band. Refined, it is not. But it's aimed at kids, so it jolly well shouldn't be. Again the ending doesn't make a lot of sense, they could easily have left it off. The Only Thing Worse than Beating a Dead Horse Is Betting On One - Well, the title earns points for inventiveness. Short and breathless, fits in well with the rest of the album . My Girl's Ex-Boyfriend - Loads of youngsters (and some oldsters probably) will relate to this, first lyrics that have interested me on the album and once again it rocks along pleasingly. They make a trademark out of these slow endings, obviously. Each to their own I suppose. More than Useless - Nothing outstanding here compared to the rest of the album, bit of a filler but boppy enough for the right audience. Which to Bury, Us or the Hatchet - Another snappy title, I prefer the shouty vocals to the more mellow opening part; is that a banjo? Bonus points for this, and for the interesting lyrics. Let It All Out - Time for a breather, seems to be an extended outro to the last song. Without the mad guitar work the vocal gets a bit irritating. I prefer it when he rants and raves. Interesting percussion at the end but a bit too slow and whiney for me. Who I Am Hates Who I've Been - Back to the bop, I can appreciate the lyrics having had more thought put into them than most bands like this would do. Sound-wise starting to blur with what's come before though. Maintain Consciousness - Doesn't stand out too much from the rest, apart from the great middle break. This Week the Trend - Nice bit of choppy guitar, better than the last one. Life After Death & Taxes - Stands out for being longer than the rest, this kind of stuff needs to be short and brutal. Perhaps they're preparing to move on to more thoughtful productions. When I Go Down - Pretty acoustic song, ending with this reminds me of all the other songs which ended quietly - I'm quite impressed they decided to do this with the whole album. Although it does rev up a bit at times, so that scuppers my theory. Christmas bells! Bonus points again! But points deducted for going on too long I'm afraid *stern look* Despite my ELO fandom, I also really enjoy a shouty mad metal band such as early Nirvana and Pulled Apart By Horses. So those parts of this album pleased me greatly and listening to it was a positive experience. It's good to see a band put a bit of thought into the words too. If my kids were listening to this I'd be pretty happy. And I think it is aimed at youngsters, who wouldn't moan about it starting to sound the same like I did, they'd just enjoy the energy and join in with the snappy lyrics. I'd give it 7 out of 10 for exuberance, but if I were 14 again I'd probably rush out and buy it and mosh around my bedroom howling along and playing air guitar. Thanks for sharing, kcabnrut!

1. The One I'm Waiting For – I like the opening guitar. This track sounds very early-90s. Like something the Mock Turtles could have put out crossed with some heavy metal! 2. Be My Escape – I like the intro to this, a good fast opening. Quite a bouncy tune maybe. 3. High of 75 – Another good guitar intro – Bit of a surprise when the song suddenly gets fast. 4. I So Hate Consequences – Another punky sounding tune. Nice and upbeat, lighter than most heavy music. 5. The Only Thing Worse than Beating a Dead Horse Is Betting On One – I wish I could hear the lyrics, it goes to fast! The there are slow parts. I still can’t hear the words but it has interesting contrasts. 6. My Girl's Ex-Boyfriend – I like this tune. Might be my favourite. 7. More than Useless – I wish I could hear the words! 8. Which to Bury, Us or the Hatchet? – I like this track. Very poppy 9. Let It All Out – A nice ballad, it’s very good – they should have put more like this on here. 10. Who I Am Hates Who I've Been – Not too keen on this one, might be the one I like least here. 11. Maintain Consciousness – The guitar throughout has been good but I wish it was used in a more interesting way. 12. This Week the Trend – The same with the drums. The drumming is solid but a little uninspiring. 13. Life After Death & Taxes – Lots of energy here. Very fast. I’m not one for metal-sounding music but I like this. 14. When I Go Down – Nice acoustic intro. A good ending song. Good to end on something a bit different.
Something I've noticed here is that most if not all of the tracks begin and then suddenly change after the intro. This isn't bad as it gives the album variety. Overall it's a very good album with lots of upbeat energy.

Kabrunut and Jim, I'm afraid I won't be able to provide a regular review of the full album as I'll be traveling for a few days starting tomorrow morning, but I'll try to play it today while packing so as to give it a listen all the same. Off on holiday Helmut83 ? Yeap! I've just come back. And on Friday or Saturday morning I go again, but this time only for the weekend.

I rested a lot, read a lot, played some music and did tons of excercise. If only life were like that always, we would look young, healthy and happy all the time...

Welcome back, Helmut! Really good to hear you had a great time and I can only applaud your idea of going straight out on another break, brilliant! Haha... the first one was my idea, but the second one is forced. A cousin of mine is getting married on Saturday and the wedding happens to be at my granma's land near the town of Pergamino, so me and my family are going to the land from Friday to Sunday so as to attend the wedding.

Yes, both BSJ and I have missed you horribly, every day we've asked each other when you'll be back. Luckily we've had jefflynnenut to spank but it's not the same Matthew's much better, just waiting for his scar to heal over then we can take the cone off his head and let him outside. Just hope he doesn't run into the bully-boy cat that bit him again. This wedding sounds like a good opportunity for one of your famous asados, mmmmm. There was a programme on TV the other day where a famous chef travelled around Argentina and was amazed by the yumminess of a proper asado cooked by gauchos over a fire. I was watching and feeling VERY VERY hungry.

I was watching and feeling VERY VERY hungry. Well, kind of that will be the wedding. There will be a huge asado cooked by a country guy (something like the modern-day descendant of the gauchos) and those guys really know how to make an asado. You can eat and drink quite a lot on those occasions. Ah, and I feel honoured to know that spanking jefflynnenut will never replace spanking me.
