Query from a newbie collector. I have been buying singles off fleabay and today I got a copy of the first single 10538 Overture. A bit on the dusty side so I got the cleaning fluid and cloths out. Cleaned side one with the 10538 Overture label on. Turned it over, only to find that the other side ALSO has a 10538 Overture label on. One side has a small white label attached. Played that side and it plays as expected. the other side plays the correct b side - First Movement (Jumping Biz). I am guessing the original owner put the white label on to identify which was the correct A side. I’ve looked around for an explanation but can only see talk of a mispressing which plays a Gary Glitter track on the B side but is correctly labelled. Any thoughts from those who know ? Have I found a rare gem worth millions of pounds ? Can I retire ? 😉 TIA

I've never heard of this version, good find! As to its value, I've no idea though....

Hi belpertim ELO does have a number of 7” single issues (namely Sweet Talkin’ Woman (Purple Vinyl) Shine A Little Love, Don’t Bring Me Down and Confusion), that were issued with 2 different fonts/text/layout designs on the labels so miss-label copies exist with a mixture of the two different fonts and different text sizes/layouts on either Side A or Side B for the 4 issues. I also have ELO Jet Records re-issue coloured LPs of Face The Music & A New World Record with the wrong or non-matching labels on them. I have never seen a 10538 Overture single with the same “A” side label on both sides of the disc. Its obviously a mistake at the record pressing factory that a rogue label ended up in the wrong pile labels to be stuck to the disc. Is it valuable ? From what I have seen collecting ELO and other groups, miss-labels are a curiosity for some collectors, but do not seem to hold any value, sorry. Hope you enjoy your ELO collecting and find my ELO Singles www.elosingles.co.uk/ and ELO Albums www.eloalbums.co.uk/ websites useful.
