Of course another thing that killed off the "Top of the pops" and "Hot hits" budget records were KTel and Ronco releasing albums with original hits on. A predecessor to the "Now" franchise.

I wonder how much Ktel and ronco paid the artists in those days as opposed to the BBC (I assume) paying session musicians?

I would think they probably got the records direct from the record companies so wouldn't need to pay the artists

unomusette , you are correct! This is from Sir's autobiography with his POV. Excellent is the word "shonky".
I remember a bit from bev Bevans book 'the elo story' they had a road manager on one tour called 'john elton' he was immediately, and ever afterwards referred to as 'dwight reg'.

The only reason people bought those were the sleeves.... I've got wild west hero's, it's by a cover band called hits machine unlimited. I have this too on cassette. It was discussed on here a few weeks ago, the group also did a cover of Xanadu that sells for around £30 on ebay.
