At least when it starts playing live you know it’s the last track, you can get up and leave avoiding the big rush for the car park.

When ELO were young, and you had Hugh, Mel, and Mik moving around on stage, Hugh raising his cello over head (yea, I know that years later Jeff would complain about that stuff - but he never complained in real time), that added a spectacle to rock n roll that the band needed besides the lighting and the spaceship. Maybe the string players upstaged Jeff in terms of spectacle? That is what it looks like to me from the old live footage.
So, in that context, a long version of ROB was good. Today, with virtually all string players sitting down (save for the female violinist), it doesn't have quite the same effect.

Yeah it's OK as a callback to their early stuff, They also ended On the third day with "In the hall of the mountin king"...nobody puts that on thier best of CD's (someone now posts "I DO") or demands they play that on tour. for me it's like Jeff ending his massive success as ELO on tour with "Bohemian Rhapsody" I just don't like Roll Over Beethoven (it's sooooo looooong) and the "but they always play that at the end..." 😁 Looks like its us two versus the world.... Add me to the mix. I always found ROB to be a tad overrated. I'd rather Jeff do an encore with Hold On Tight or RNR Is King rather than ROB.
