Hello everyone,
Currently, we are talking with archivist Rob Caiger about the future of vintage ELO unreleased material. As he described, the tapes are degrading and it would be great to see all of it out there in the future. He has asked us to come to you, the fans, to get an idea of what your "appetite" is for what you would like to hear. If you can try to be specific, what would you want to hear? (e.g. demoes, outtakes, alternate versions, studio sessions, etc.) The more specific, the better. Also feel free to elaborate on why you chose with you chose.
It would not be fair to promise that this will actually lead to something, but Rob showed lots of passion, and we as a group feel the same. So this feels like it is worth the effort and your opinions can help us try and figure out a plan. Onward we will try to go!
Please share your thoughts here or you can private message us, which ever is best for you.
Cheers from the Acetaters

Rather than adding outtakes to albums like we have had in the past I would like to see a CD/2CD set with these demos etc on, having them chronological this would keep them all nicely in one place.
Thanks for asking, the project sounds exciting I hope it comes to fruition, keep up the good work and hopefully the Light Shines On.

That sounds great. It should be a huge job, but I hope you can and will do it. Personally, I'm interested in everything you listed: demoes, outtakes, alternate versions, studio sessions. The bigger the differences to the released songs, the better. I like to make music myself, so I'm especially interested in being able to understand the process of how a song was created. A wonderful example is the collage "From A Twinkling Star To A Passing Angel" by ABBA, although I would naturally have preferred the complete tracks. I hope that you will succeed in making up for the great disappointments after the almost fruitless passing of the 50th birthday.

Alternate takes and outtakes from are definitely on top of my list. The material we've got so far on Flashback and the 2006-2007 remaster campaign has been terrific. I particularly cherish the bonus tracks on Balance Of Power and ANWR, e.g. 'Telephone Line' alternate vocal, alternate 'Heaven Only Knows', 'Sorrow About To Fall' with strings. It would be great to have similar alternate takes from other albums too. As far as the period goes, anything from 1974 to 1986 is equally interesting, though I suspect the Secret Messages sessions have the best stuff we haven't heard yet.
In addition, I would be very interested in any live material from the 1981-1986 tours. High quality video would be a holy grail (complete Heartbeat concert for example), but any soundboard quality audio would be of high interest too.
Demos can be interesting too, but not nearly as interesting as the other stuff (although Hello My Old Friend demo is supposedly epic!)
Thank you for asking and best of luck for your efforts!

Twilight 3. Yours Truly, 2095 4. Ticket to the Moon 5. The Way Life's Meant to Be Side Two 1. When Time Stood Still 2. Julie Don't Live Here 3. (Title unknown) 4. Another Heart Breaks Side Three 1. Rain is Falling 2. From the End of the World 3. The Lights Go Down 4. Here is the News Side Four 1. 21st Century Man 2. The Bouncer 3. (Title unknown) 4. Hold on Tight 5. Epilogue After hearing "Hold On Tight" on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 Mighty 690 AM Radio Show back in August 1981 while with family around Ventura, California, a U.S. Route 101 road trip to Santa Barbara's Mission when I was just 8 years old, Dad then bought me my very first Electric Light Orchestra album from Tower Records, an audio cassette of Time by ELO, thus started the fandom 41 years ago! PS-I really want a release of Time's 2 LP more than ever for sentimental reasons as Dad passed away on April 7th, 2020, not COVID, but collateral damage of it.

For me, it would be live soundboard recording for any gigs between 1981-86, followed by in second place the 2LP Time proposal, and in third place, the proper release of Beatles Forever.

When you say 'soundboard' do you mean the actual show the fans present would have heard without it being cleaned up?

When you say 'soundboard' do you mean the actual show the fans present would have heard without it being cleaned up? The concert sound as it went through the mixing board during the show. I believe it was ShardEnder who said that Brian Jones had taped ELO gigs so that the band could listen to it before the next show - and adjust sound and performance, etc. There could be dozens of those in Brian's estate' hands, unless Jeff has already purchased them from his estate.
Now, many legacy acts do a minimal amount of post concert production to clean up any "issues."

My vote and interest would be for any extra "Time" LP tracks and as above, possible double album version of Time. Otherwise I'd be happy to hear anything by the band from 1973 to 1986. (as I think the Harvest years are well covered.)

For me Time is the album I'd like released in it's entirety. I'd also love to hear how the songs evolved from demo to studio out takes to the final mix. In one progression so to speak. I'm not a fan of stuff tacked on to the end of an album Perhaps we could have a triple release of those songs and some live stuff As for the tapes degrading I find it hard to believe that the library wasn't digitised previously to avoid this happening. On the other hand If it means we get to hear some stuff then bring it on! I've got a big birthday coming up next yr so maybe mrsnickheynes could be persuaded to put her hand in her pocket!

Cheers from the Acetaters Could you give a little background on who you (the Acetaters) are, and how you could make releases like this happen? Are you a record company, or do you have record company connections? Personally, I would be very interested in any previously unreleased material. Preferably not "tagged on" to old studio albums, but released separately, so you don't have to buy songs you already have again.
