Hello, All:
It has been another quiet summer on the ELO/JFELO front, if you don't count anniversaries for Xanadu and Time. Has anyone heard of exciting news?

It very quiet at the moment we need to find a tumbleweed smiley, hopefully there will be an announcement soon for a release targeting the Christmas market.

I suspect Jeff has called it a day. He's not narcissistic enough to think anyone would be interested.

Isn't there a new album being recorded?
Or have I just dreamt it?

There hasn't been anything concrete since that video message promising something new later this year, but at this point in the months before the "surprise" announcement of From Out Of Nowhere, we already had a leaked early tracklist* and a vague idea of what was coming. Either security was massively improved or plans changed beyond those curated streaming compilations, and they clearly weren't what was originally planned. Sony's Japanese division reprinting most of the ELO back catalogue under a 50th anniversary campaign banner seemed like an act of impatient desperation, though with nobody to directly relay news beyond the one-way interaction of Jeff's social media presence, it's difficult to be sure what else may be on the cards. I'd say the biggest miss of the last year or so was Time's 40th being almost entirely ignored and the double album running order not being restored, even though it's become somewhat common knowledge within the fan community that at least one copy of this exists. Whether that follows Secret Messages and finds its way out remains to be seen, and it looks as if the powers that be don't feel too pressured into compromising as a countermeasure to a potential breach. I'd even go as far as to suggest that various preservation efforts have kept the lights on over the last year.
*I'm not sure if this has been clarified before, but according to ASCAP filings, All I Need Is You was the initial title for Help Yourself, while She's Gone became Songbird, meaning that the only difference between what leaked and found its way onto shelves was a revised sequence when compared with the internal promo CD doing the rounds at Sony months before From Out Of Nowhere was ever formally announced.

I am not so sure about this. Early German reviews of "From Out Of Nowhere" talked about 11 tracks, so I guess there must be some outtakes.

Could the current difficulty in finding pressing plant slots be a factor? I would imagine that a lot of Jeff fans are also fans of vinyl.

The Orchestra is putting together a video from their shows in Israel. The shows got delayed from Jan to June which may mean they miss the Christmas season. On the other hand, Jeff's radio silence may help them sell a few more copies whenever it does come out. In the meantime there was the "No Rewind" re-release.
I see that the JLELO FB group gets lots of new members which indicates there are still fans hopeful that Jeff will do another tour. I'm starting to think he's bounced off to 2095.

fun fact, if you Google JLELO it suggests the FB page for Jell-O brand gelatin the next item was a word scramble promising that you can make 14 different words from JLELO (I'll bet vlogdance can top that) Jeff isn't exactly burning up the interwebs.

I am not so sure about this. Early German reviews of "From Out Of Nowhere" talked about 11 tracks, so I guess there must be some outtakes. Here are those ASCAP listings that I mentioned earlier: While there was an extra song listed on some initial pre-order sites for the Japanese edition of FOON, I don't think it was ever named (assuming this existed in the first place). Someone once told me that "On The Horizon" might have come from an early promo version of the eventual title track with this line substituted for its eventual opening lyric. I'm inclined to believe such a theory, as this would at least rhyme with what immediately follows. Also, note how the opening track is mastered considerably louder than the rest of the album - its inconsistency could be a sign of some last minute reworking being done once those leaks got out, though I must stress this is just speculation on my part based around an observation.

No more JLELO merchandise? Supply chain problems? Asleep at the switch? Switching to a new merch partner? Haven’t sold a thing in months, so why bother? Done with ELO and about to launch a new super-group?

Those alternative versions could still be quite different. And I remember Jeff saying that Help Yourself was one of the last songs written for the album ... It's quite typical of Jeff. Take Caught In A Trap, for example, which, although it uses large parts of the same backing track as IFTK, is almost a different song. It would have been okay to release both tracks on the original album. Pink Floyd certainly would have done it ( Remember Another Brick In The Wall 1-3?) But I am almost certain there must be at least one outtake proper ( German people are known to take a lot of care with their work.
