My all-time favorite AT40 hits by Olivia Newton-John are... Xanadu (1980) by Jeff Lynne w/Electric Light Orchestra Magic (1980) Suddenly (1980) with Cliff Richard A Little More Love (1979) Make a Move on Me (1981) Physical (1981) Twist of Fate (1983) Hopelessly Devoted to You (1978) You're the One That I Want (1978) with John Travolta If Not for You (1971) by Bob Dylan; see George Harrison Have You Never Been Mellow (1975) Please Mr. Please (1975) If You Love Me (Let Me Know) (1974) I Honestly Love You (1974) Let Me Be There (1973) Not speaking of charts or anything, "Come On Over" to me is her best song. Written by Barry and Robin Gibb and sang by an angel, it's one of the most beautiful love songs ever. You can feel the emotion in her voice.

I'm sure this topic has been explored but why didn't ELO do ANY promo vids for Xanadu? 4 hits and not one vid featuring the band. Jeff couldn't have known at the time that the film was going to flop and since Discovery wasn't toured they needed to keep their status high so the question remains....

Jeff had a new wife and a baby on the way. I think that may have played a part.

I've always thought when they agreed to do Xanadu though the music was pretty good, Jeff regretted it almost immediately.

We all know that Jeff hated life on the road back then and video was the go to when live shows didn't permit (the band did lots of promo's up until 1979) so a few hours in the studio making 4 vids in one go al a Discovery a few months earlier must have crossed his mind, so why not?

Regarding the ELO side of the Xanadu soundtrack - I thought I had read on one of the social media boards that originally it was going to be Jeff Lynne only on the soundtrack (not ELO). But then the accountants must have figured out that Jeff's songs would sell better under the ELO banner and with the full band. Much like Jeff's touring the last number of years.

Interesting,Jeff didn't really have a solo career as such back then, only a few forgotten singles that didnt set the world alight. Accountants always know best....
