This could take some time Lets try to find the best ELO single released, I've taken the information for the UK, we will have seven rounds, semi finals and a grand final. The first contenders are listed above with the top two moving forward.

A single is a very special object, a lovely 7 (or 12) inches of vinyl (cds and mp3s are not beautiful and therefore not real singles). The best singles aren't necessarily the best tracks on an album nor the tracks you favour most as a fan. The best singles will make you excited to take the record out of its sleeve and they will give you more than enough pleasure without having to play the whole album.
Therefore I'm voting for 'Hold On Tight'. It's a perfect pop song that can be taken easily away from Time and away from ELO's repertoire as a separate entity.

Shine a Little Love for me it was either that or WWH, but I remember getting SALL as a single before Discovery came out.

Turn To Stone. Song that would not be out of place on New World Record or Face The Music.

I'm going to go with Hold on Tight .Partly for the same reasons as Queenofthehours. But also because: When the single came out I was working at hospital radio in Hastings and roadying for a mobile dj who also had a show there. One of our regular nights was a disco at the youth club in Bexhill for all the foreign exchange students. They went mad all the euro pop stuff which we got from a shop in Eastbourne. Any way my knowledge of French (actually any language)is appalling so I asked a lovely French girl called Veronique to translate the French verse for me. She said that it was too noisy at the club so she came round to my mum and dad's the next day. Imagine my disappointment when I found that the French was just the English translated! (wasn't disappointed in Veronique tho'.Wonder what ever happened to her)
