How can ANYONE even begin to decide which of the Genius that is Jeff Lynne’s “Nice little tunes” with ELO (in all it’s forms) would rank as ELO’s ‘Number One’ song?? I think Jeff’s ambitious ‘dreams’ of what COULD be done only made his music better. Sure, I feel sorry for Mik and the guys who he ‘lost’ on the way up, but really, his post 80s music is timeless, and I for one, cannot chose a single stand out!!
As for the stage shows, there are many. But I think ‘Wembley or Bust’ has to visually be the best, along with then they were usung the spaceship and lasers!! Spectacular!!
Can anyone nominate an ‘all time BEST’ song??

I could name 5 or 6,each song would have its own reasons. To name just one outright though is nigh on impossible...

Well, Trish, asking dedicated fans to pick 'the best of the best' was always going to be difficult.
There are different phases to ELO that different people will love.
Sadly, Zoom can come for a bit of stick - unfairly. I think - and it is just my opinion - that it contains Jeff's best (and in some cases, very personal) songwriting. He dispensed with the, almost, obligatory full string section. On Zoom, strings were used sparingly - to good effect.
They're a part of my favourite Zoom track - Ordinary Dream.
To be honest, it's having a continuous tussle with The Diary as my favourite Jeff song.
But, lurking in the shadows is the rocking masterpiece that is Long Black Road. Another Zoom-period song.
Ordinary Dream starts off in a slow, unassuming way, but builds and builds, ending up with dazzling, almost angry, guitar.
A love song, with strings (well, maybe a cello or two) and some darn fine rock guitar playing.
I'll never tire of listening to it.

For me, it's absolutely obvious: Telephone Line forever and always, followed by Big Wheels. Those lush, sad love songs from that era are the ones I love, and these are the best!

That's a tough call, but I nominate So Fine off of A New World Record.

Trish if you check out Chippa’s ultimate ELO thread you will get to vote for a song every couple of days until we have an out right winner. It makes good reading and you will see the forums choice. I honestly couldn’t pick just one song.

when Chippa's never ending song poll finishes, we'll know the answer to ELO best song ever should happen around the year 2095

True. I'm still in shock that All my Love has been booted already. I love that song and, while it is too short, think it is one of Jeff prettiest.
