One of my all time fave movies, here are some behind the scenes pics. A movie from the '50s that didn't simplify the threat of alien invasion, no gimmicky robots etc. Even without CGI, this move still holds up as a classic...(loving the music too)

I watched on cinema the newer version (2005) directed by Spielberg, with Tom Cruise and a very young Dakota Fanning. It sucked royally, a complete bore. I expect the version you are talking about was much better.

One of the best albums when I was growing up.
In my best Richard Burton voice.
No one would have believed In the last years of the nineteenth century That human affairs were being Watched from the timeless worlds of space No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinised as someone With a microscope studies creatures That swarm and multiply in a drop of water Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets And yet, across the gulf of space Minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with Envious eyes, and slowly And surely, they drew their plans against us

Has anyone watched the French made(?) series from a couple of years ago? or the one the BBC put out around the same time?

Just as a tease - the first part of the concert version...
On a winter's night, in December 2018, I had the utmost pleasure of seeing this live in Bournemouth. I was close enough to feel the heat from the huge fighting machine suspended over the stage. Jeff (not OUR Jeff!) was there conducting. Also there was Chris Spedding on lead guitar and Herbie Flowers on bass. Chris is in his mid-seventies and Herbie in his early eighties. They waddled on, and were on top form - not missing a note!
When things settle down - and WOTW is on tour again - don't hesitate! Go!

I adore the War of the Worlds album and the concert video is pretty good although I haven't seen it live yet (I'd have probably gone to see it by now if it hadn't been for the virus!). The album is the next best thing to the book for me. I went to the cinema to see the Tommy Cruise version and felt like being sick after. I did not like it. It made me feel ill. It was nothing like the story should be. The old movie is the best film version for me and I've given up on there being a true WOTW adaption so never saw the BBC effort.
Wasn't there a HG Wells coin? with a four-legged tripod?
I think I've posted this before but here's Richard Burton vs Billericay. If such a master of voice get tripped up by a word then it proves nobody is ever perfect.

The coin is a 2021 £2 and it has caused a bit of a kerfuffle with HG Wells fans because it shows a 4th leg. You probably won't see one of these coins as I don't think that the Royal mint are going to release it to the general public (a ploy that they do just so folk will pay over the odds for an uncut coin)
