Probably been a thread like this before but anyway.....
A place to mention your favourite instrumental solo on any track. Not many opportunities for what you might consider "proper" rock solos in ELO songs but when they do pop up they are worth noting and you can stretch the definition a bit if needed.?
Personally, I go for Richard's beautiful grand piano break in "Wishing".

The slide in the middle of "I Need Her Love" comes to mind. It's so beautiful that I sometimes back it up to hear it again.

Guitar solo/break on Take Me On and On I LOVE that guitar tone. Excellent choice. I'm gonna have to dig through some songs to pick out my faves. Probably too many to mention, right now.

In my opinion, the best guitar solo can be heard in Shangri-La - played by Richard Tandy!

My favourite solos are piano solos: 1. The one in "It`s Over" 2. The one in "Twilight" (both short but fantastic) And the synth solo towards the end of "I`m alive" always gives me goosebumps. It`s incredibly well composed.

As well as those mentioned so far, the ones that spring to mind are the piano solos in From The Sun To The World and Nobody's Child and the saxophone solo in Getting To The Point.

I really like his wild violin solo on "In The Hall Of The Mountain King".

I really like his wild violin solo on "In The Hall Of The Mountain King". Can we all agree that Mik's contributions are so important to the ELO sound?

Strange, but it's only recently that I've come to appreciate Bev's prowess on drums. A few years back I remember a post reviewing the complete Secret Messages in another part of this forum. The description of his drumming on Hello My Old Friend brought a smile to many eyes, I'm sure But... Bev's drumming in the latter half of Fire On High is out of this world! In my car, the volume goes right up to fully appreciate his brilliance...

I always liked the solo in ' From the end of the world '...and how do we know it's a solo? Because it says so on the lyric sheet.
