Across the border melody is very close to the Beach Boys song Heroes and Villains. And The way life's meant to be is very similar too

Thank you. I don't really think the melodies are that close but it would be interesting to see the dots I guess

Mr. Blue Sky and A Day in the Life So every song that ELO have done were ripped from other songs? ok..... I wouldn't call 15 songs every song that ELO have done!

The Changingman uses samples from The Electric Light Orchestra track 10538 Overture and their cover of In the Hall of the Mountain King.

Is the issue not just that pop music by it's nature is incredibly simple. Usually relatively limited melodies (due to singer's range) mainly in 4/4 time (although not always) and quite basic chord sequences and lack of modulation. So there's bound to be repetition.
And on that...are there any ELO songs not in 4/4 or 12/8 ?

"Go right ahead" borrows the riff from "Don't bring me down".

Wow. You guys remind me of people playing music backwards slower and slower saying "Oh there's another one"! You hear what you want to hear sometimes.

Wow. You guys remind me of people playing music backwards slower and slower saying "Oh there's another one"! You hear what you want to hear sometimes. Tell me, tightrope : when you hear the riff of "Go right ahead" you don't think about "Don't bring me down" at all? Any relation between the two songs can only happen in the head of someone who hears what he wants to hear? In your opinion does Paul Weller's "Changing man" riff need a lot of mental twisting in order to establish a far-fetched similarity with "10538 Overture" which can only be heard by those who are wanting to hear it?
