Well that's the question! I was born in '76 (anwr) and I was a child of the 80's. We were entertained by "The A team, Swapshop, Top of the pops and so forth (No one died violent deaths and thee were no over the top sex scenes either). Music was great, fun (except if you were a Cure head, Smiths fan) Ha Ha Ha! and is it just me or were the Summers better? I don't remember being under "peer pressure" your Mammy bought your clothes and you wore them....until they fell off you or 5 cousins, brothers later you recognised that uncomfortable, scratchy jumper on another unsuspecting victim. During the week I was addicted to the Isley Brothers "Fight the power" from '75 and I decided to watch the track being danced to by the "soul train" dance squad. Whether you are a fan of the clothes/hairstyles or not, you gotta admit it looked like everyone was just having fun. Nowaday's it's all about how you look, money, popularity and hollow persona's. During the week there was a programme entitled " It was alright in the 70's" which consisted "mostly" of folk my age and folk who weren't even born in the decade and they were all pretty much horrified at some of the racial, sexist and downright bizarre s*** that was shown on our t.v. screens. Now while I don't tolerate any abuse of the later issues......I COULD'NT HELP FEEL THAT THERE WAS INFACT MORE FREEDOM, CHOICE AND HAPPINESS?. Anyway maybe I'm looking at a world long ago with rose tinted glasses but please share your thoughts on today v's yesteryear and try your best to make em funny! Anyway I'll leave you with this clip thats just downright funky, funny, colourful and beautifully free! Enjoy! Jeff.

What I hate about the world today is the blame culture, why does everything that happens have to be dissected in so much detail and somebody blamed for absolutely everything. Can't people accept that things happen and there is nothing we can do about it, maybe it's due to the 24 hour news channels and the Internet and the fact they need something to report upon or they would lose there jobs.
When I was little you could only get news from newspapers and later while I was at school John Cravens Newsround, I remember seeing the Challenger shuttle disaster on Newsround, it was the first time I had seen anything like that happen live.
The same was for music news I would get Record Mirror and later Smash Hits (they printed song lyrics which was great I'd cut them out to keep in the single sleeve) it must have been really hard for bands to get information out to potential fans back then, although because of this fashions wouldn't change so quickly due to the lack of available information.

Loving your sneaky festive avvy addition, HW! Must agree that things today seem hugely worse than when I was a kid in the '70's Is that because we're grown up now though, and know the entirety of the horrors out there? In the '70's there was the whole IRA threat, a rubbish government, the oil crisis, bread rationing and the three day week and things looked pretty bleak in lots of ways. But did it bother us kids? Not much as I recall, as long as there was lots of glam rock and sherbert fountains. We were blissfully ignorant. Unfortunately these days, because everyone including children seems to have a mobile phone which acts like a PC, every nasty fact is available in grim detail. It's inescapable. You can be bullied in lots of new ways whatever your age. And the media which is all-pervading keeps telling you about all the stuff you simply must have, and the perfect body you should aspire to, or else you're worthless. Yet here I am, ranting about it using technology we could only dream about in the '70's. Fair trade off? I wonder.

The only part I love about the 1970's was the invention of prog/AOR rock, nothing more nothing less...
