I wasn’t expecting an announcement from Jeff, but I thought “Team Jeff” would have noted Louis passing on their social media channels.

I think that Jeff's (so far) refusal to make a short statement about Lou Clark is incredibly disappointing and a poor reflection upon him. It's even more insensitive when you consider that he did mention Mike Edwards and I agree it's probably because Mike had nothing to do with ELO Part II or Orchestra. The flippant comments about Jeopardy just add salt to the wound. Yes I know that 'Team Jeff' maintain the Facebook/twitter pages. It's not just Jeff Lynne though and I've been surprised by a wider lack of acknowledgement in the assorted media. I get a lot of music news from the Udiscovermusic website for example, who are generally very thorough. Since Lou's sad passing, the only music-related deaths that they've reported are: jazz drummer Milford Graves, Fania Records co-founder Johnny Pacheco, Jamaican vocalist U-Roy and Prince Markie Dee of the Fat Boys. That's the level of detail that the site goes to. Now, with the greatest of respect to those named and who undoubtedly made their own mark on their own respective 'scene', doesn't Lou Clark deserve a mention? Had to get that off my chest.... We have all come to know Jeff as a talented, focused individual who doesn't take fools gladly but this will go against him at some point. Its a sad indictment imo, that he can't bring himself to say a few words about Lou and indeed Hughie, two fantastically talented musicians who were there to put Jeff on top of the world in the mid to late 70s. Would Eldorado have turned out the way it did without Lou? or would the live shows be as entertaining without Hughie? Just saying.... Indeed! Also... It was 12 years ago today, 2/19/2009-2/19/2021, but on a Thursday, that American Renolit laid me off, when I came home to find out Kelly Groucutt, bass player of my all-time favorite band, Electric Light Orchestra, had tragically died from a heart attack at only 63 years old, then no In Memoriam tribute for him by The Recording Academy/GRAMMYs in 2010 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame snubbed him in 2016-2017, along with his son Chris Groucutt dead just over 4 years ago now!

I didn't realise that it was the anniversary of Kelly's passing, that too makes Jeff stubbornness even more harder to comprehend..

www.ftmusic.com/www.ftmusic.com/news/index.htmlLOUIS CLARK 27 February 1947 – 13 February 2021Louis Clark, bass and keyboard player, arranger and conductor, passed away at the age of 73 on Saturday, February 13. His wife, Gloria made the sad announcement on his Facebook page. His first musical experience took the form of piano and viola lessons at the age of 14. Not long after that, The Beatles happened and he, like many others wanted to be in a band! He started playing in little groups around Bridgnorth in Shropshire and when he finished school he moved to Birmingham where he thought he'd stand a better chance at making it. He joined a band that eventually turned into the Raymond Froggatt Band playing bass and recording several singles and a couple of albums. It was on the second album where he was given a chance to write some string arrangements of which he had no experience. So armed with a few books on the subject, he learned basic arranging! When his arrangements were well recieved, he decided to quit the band to become a full time arranger. However, he found very quickly that his practical experience was not going to be enough to see him through and decided to enrol in a 3 year course at The City Of Leeds College Of Music. Lou first came to Jeff Lynne's attention when Jeff had started work on the Electric Light Orchestra's fourth album ' Eldorado' at De Lane Lea studios in London during 1974... Previously, Jeff had labouriously constructed the 'orchestral' sections by overdubbing ELO's 3-piece string section in the studio to make them sound bigger. Around the same time, Lou had been working on arrangements for a musical based on William Shakespeare for his former bandmate and friend Raymond Froggatt (the album was never released). Jeff heard the 'Shakespeare' tapes and asked if Lou would be interested in working on the Eldorado album. From 1974 through to 1983, Lou co-arranged the orchestra, choir and string section with Jeff and Richard Tandy on ELO's most successful albums: Eldorado, Face The Music, A New World Record, Out Of the Blue, Discovery, Xanadu and Secret Messages. During 1979, he released an excellent LP ‘ Perspektiv’ which re-imagined many of the themes on the unreleased Shakespeare album. In the 1980's, he introduced classical music to the pop masses with the hugely successful Hooked On Classics series recorded with London’s Philharmonic Orchestra. Lou’s work was well respected and his talents were in demand with a number of artists over the years such as Roy Orbison, America, Roy Wood, Carl Wayne, Asia, City Boy, Renaissance, Annie Haslam, Ozzy Osbourne, Kiki Dee and Clout to name but a few. His quiet modesty, quick humour and immense talent will be sadly missed.

I wasn’t expecting an announcement from Jeff, but I thought “Team Jeff” would have noted Louis passing on their social media channels. Who exactly is/are 'Team Jeff'? As BSJ said it’s his management who work for Craig, I get the impression there isn’t many of them, the contact I have is a lady who got in contact with me when they asked if I would allow them to have the “Jeff Lynne’s ELO” hash tag which the forums Facebook page was using at the time. I think it’s the same person the girls met when they won the competition to see Jeff in Chicago. When they wanted the tag she replied very quickly now they have it my messages go unanswered, who would have guessed When I had contact I was told “ as well as stay in contact with you in in the event of any fan opportunities in the future that we could share with you and the forum.”

Very, very sad news. The main man in front of the orchestra, who gave to the ELO the sound we will remeber forever. Rest in peace Louis, and thanks for your music!!
