I'd like to hope Louis Clark could be included on In Memoriam during the March 14th, 2021 Recording Academy/GRAMMYs broadcast by CBS, unlike Kelly Groucutt, Mike Edwards & Hugh McDowell! May Louis Clark rest in peace. ELO's 50th Anniversary has sucked thus far! All-time favorites with him for me as conductor/co-choral/string arranger he was an integral part of The Electric Light Orchestra definitive lineup's sound... Eldorado, A Symphony (1974) Face the Music (1975) A New World Record (1976) Out of the Blue (1977) Discovery (1979) Xanadu (1980) Secret Messages (1983) The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Hooked on Classics (1981) ELO Part II Electric Light Orchestra Part Two (1990) Moment of Truth (1995) The Orchestra Starring ELO Former Members No Rewind (2001) ELO Tour band member (1981 & 1986)

His solo album is a really good listen. Released in 1979 with a nice gatefold cover. Have a listen at the 8 minute mark classic ELO strings.

I really must dig out my copy of the album again and give it a spin, I bought it when it first came out and only listened to it once and couldn’t get into it, much water has gone under the bridge since then.

I’ve not seen anything yet, I did message the contact I have in “Team Jeff” this morning suggesting some comment on their social media outlets would be appreciated by the fans....I’ve not as yet received a reply. I would have left it to their own initiative. I don't want to see Team Jeff making a comment because they received pressure by the fans, I would rather sit back and see if they spontaneously come up with something or if they (and he) care so little about it they don't feel it deserves a mention. That would tell us more about the way he feels about it than a statement made out of compromise because the fans asked them to. Team Jeff's thoughts are not with Louis Clark, but Alex Trebek and Jeopardy!

I never knew that MBS was originally called 'Thou Shalt Not'... The full working title was Thou Shalt Not No. 7, which not only provides a clue as to its place in the original OOTB concerto (before this was cut down), but is apparently a reference to the seventh commandment...

How strange, you would have thought that the death a of guy who worked so closely with Jeff Lynne for many years and who played an important role in making Jeff's music sound like it sounded would have been publicly acknowledged. Then again, I don't know what their personal relationship was, and I don't know much of how it ended (other than "wrong"). And, with the exception of Richard Tandy, Jeff never showed the slightest intention of reconciling with any of the other band members/staff, forgiving them or even acknowledging their existence, so this posture isn't new.

Another exception being Mike Edwards after his tragic death back in 2010 more than likely because he was never a member of ELO Part II or The Orchestra! www.vintagevinylnews.com/2010/09/jeff-lynne-pays-tribute-to-mike-edwards.htmlJeff Lynne Pays Tribute to Mike EdwardsSeptember 13, 2010 Former Electric Light Orchestra cellist Mike Edwards was killed last week when his car was hit by a runaway hay bail. While his time in the group was short (1972 to 1975) he left a long lasting impression with his stage antics. ELO founder Jeff Lynne posted the following about Edwards: "Mike Edwards was unlike your average balaclava wearing cellist in a rock group. He was a very good natured chap who mixed politeness and reserve with wild and wacky stage performances.
Even though he left the group over 35 years ago I occasionally think about him on stage in his woolen balaclava playing his cello solo with an orange. Now that was pretty original.
Mike was a great cellist but most of all a real gentleman. The wild and strange middle bit in Showdown is actually Mike Edwards Double tracked over and over adding odd notes all the time. I love that bit."

Ah, thanks trekkielo, I didn't remember that about Mike Edwards. The kind of thing you would expect in cases like these.

I think that Jeff's (so far) refusal to make a short statement about Lou Clark is incredibly disappointing and a poor reflection upon him. It's even more insensitive when you consider that he did mention Mike Edwards and I agree it's probably because Mike had nothing to do with ELO Part II or Orchestra. The flippant comments about Jeopardy just add salt to the wound. Yes I know that 'Team Jeff' maintain the Facebook/twitter pages. It's not just Jeff Lynne though and I've been surprised by a wider lack of acknowledgement in the assorted media. I get a lot of music news from the Udiscovermusic website for example, who are generally very thorough. Since Lou's sad passing, the only music-related deaths that they've reported are: jazz drummer Milford Graves, Fania Records co-founder Johnny Pacheco, Jamaican vocalist U-Roy and Prince Markie Dee of the Fat Boys. That's the level of detail that the site goes to. Now, with the greatest of respect to those named and who undoubtedly made their own mark on their own respective 'scene', doesn't Lou Clark deserve a mention? Had to get that off my chest....

We have all come to know Jeff as a talented, focused individual who doesn't take fools gladly but this will go against him at some point. Its a sad indictment imo, that he can't bring himself to say a few words about Lou and indeed Hughie, two fantastically talented musicians who were there to put Jeff on top of the world in the mid to late 70s. Would Eldorado have turned out the way it did without Lou? or would the live shows be as entertaining without Hughie? Just saying....
