Reason being, I've just watched tedblight on his channel unboxing his remastered Time and Face The Music albums and the labels were Epic. I don't know the exact reasons why Jet ceased but seeing these albums on Epic rather than Jet has put me off buying them. So I'm guessing Jet doesn't exist at all, if it did it surely would have allowed the label to be used? ShardEnder , it's up to you...

I don't believe that Jet exists as a company, but there's definitely some lingering business. As late as the 2006 restoration of the Wembley '78 concert and the more recent Early Years set, David Arden was licensing material from his personal collection to Eagle Rock Entertainment. Since then, he's set up an eBay store that sold a few items to finance other ventures, including several stereo master cutting tapes. I'm not sure if anyone owns the Jet name or logo, though I've seen a few enterprising individuals selling their own merchandise with these elements. Knowing how ruthless the Ardens could be at their peak, I'm surprised these haven't been pulled yet - that suggests they don't really have any control. (Part of the reason why Jet bowed out around the time Balance Of Power was originally released is because so much of its remaining cashflow went on paying lawyers for the case that ended with Dave being sentenced and Don escaping to Los Angeles, which came out of them trying to set up a former accountant on false fraud allegations, including him being quite violently attacked on several occasions.)

The singles collection from a couple of years ago used the Jet labels so it must be possible to licence them. I have to agree that the awful Epic labels put me off buying the vinyl re-issues. I am hoping for proper re-issues this year as part of the 50th anniversary - with the original UK labels and UK covers (On the Third Day). The second singles collection would be great as this volume would be much more interesting in terms of B sides and picture sleeves.

When the Time double comes out this year, it would be great if the label was Jet, anything else wouldn't be the same....

Hadn't even thought about that, the plain blue CBS label on BOP already makes me cry enough as it is... (The UA label is boring too but for some reason I don't mind it as much.) If it's not Jet, then I hope they at least use a custom label like Zoom/AITU/FOON rather than Epic, I think I could accept that better.

If it isn't ,then I'll probably just download it instead... Just checked the 2LP release of Secret Messages and it's on Epic... not looking very promising for us. Having the Jet label would be a nice touch (not to mention historically accurate), and I agree it wouldn't be the same without it, but not a complete deal breaker for me--having it on vinyl is the more important of my priorities. Of course I exclusively associate Jet with ELO (I can't tell you how many times I've glimpsed the Jet label among the singles in the record store and gotten excited, only to find that it was an Ozzy Osbourne record), but maybe it helps that here in the US the ties aren't as strong--the standard UA label was used up through Face the Music, the one-off label for ANWR, CBS for BOP, custom labels for Zoom/AITU/FOON, and I have an import on Harvest--so even with my copy of OTTD being a reissue on Jet, I literally have fewer ELO albums on Jet than on other labels. That said, the Epic label (and the Canadian Jet label, for that matter) has always looked, and will always look, profoundly wrong on an ELO album to me... so I am still crossing my fingers for the Jet label for Time 2LP. (The older-style version of the Jet artwork like was originally chosen for Time, which the US has never seen?!? Yes please!!)

For a moment I thought you were talking about this Jet...
...and I thought "of course he survives! In a bit of a mutated and deteriorated form if we compare him to his '70s self, granted, but it certainly qualifies as 'surviving in any form'".
Then I realized you were talking about the label.

When lve googled the Japanese miniature CDs, some of the releases ( including Time) have reproduced Jet label's which look very nice. I thought of making my own for the Bug club SM but not getting much success locating label's etc

Groosss mentions ‘Canadian Jet label’.... All my vinyl was purchased in Canada (Eldorado, ANWR, OTTB, Discovery, Greatest Hits, Time, SM) and was labelled Jet not United Artists or anything else. My only Epic vinyl was BOP. Are US and UK Jet labels different or am I misunderstanding? Thanks!

I believe the newer artwork, which was used when the Jet label was finally introduced to the US with OOTB, was also used in the UK on Discovery and Secret Messages.

“When the Time double comes out this year”
Is this definite?

There is lots of talk of it so although not definite, there is a good chance...

Its surprising that some talented individual has not produced replica label stickers that you can put over the horrible Epic ones. Sticking them on would be straight-forward as the turntable spindle would ensure the label is central. I remember doing this sort of thing for years with CD-Rs we used to produce at work for software releases.

Good idea! I have some of these somewhere. Are they the same size as an album label?
