Sad news today of the passing of this remarkable man. He did so much in such a short time raising close to £40million and inspiring thousands of others to do similar things. This Yorkshireman will never be forgotten....

When we were still realising the magnitude of the covid outbreak, Sir Tom showed us how to approach it with dignity and optimism. He raised a staggering amount for the NHS and inspired lots of other people to do the same. He always seemed amazed at all the love and respect that came his way but it was very much deserved and I hope he enjoyed his final year just as much as some of those from his long and eventful life. RIP Sir Tom.

I was dumbfounded when Dave told me Sir Tom died. I thought for sure he'd beat the virus! RIP, Sir Tom *salute*

This is so sad. Capt. Tom was an inspiration to us all and should never be forgotten.
He has proven that you only need to do something simple to make a huge difference and that it doesn't matter how old you are you can still achieve great things.

Just a bit miffed about the trolls who say all he did was walk up and down his garden. Yeah he did, so what? He was 99 and thought he'd do something useful and be proactive. He didn't ask for the world's media to get on board, he did it to try and earn a few thousand pounds for the beleaguered NHS, that few thousand turned into nearly £40million....

Trolls are just ugly inside and out. Did they do anything for charity, to help anyone? No, they just sat around indoors watching Netflix and counting their toilet rolls. Not everyone can captivate a nation like Capt. Tom, it takes something special and in a year when life stopped Capt. Tom found a way to live his best life and give us some joy as well.

The reason Capt. Tom made such a mark on the world is because he didn't give a fig about popularity, likes, TikTok or technology and never sought fame for himself. There's been plenty of people who during 2020 have done good things but there's always the element of self-awareness and self-promotion involved that you can't escape from these days with the internet. Capt. Tom was such a success because wasn't of the cynical social media generation and did something good because he wanted to with no other motive than goodness.
